Spotted this article in the headlines on the news on my cell phone...

seems Kodak is having trouble getting Plain steel with lacquer to make end caps for 35mm cartridges, so they are using end caps made from Tin Plate. they say that their are no photographic effects - although I always thought tin was a no-no near film. Anyway, the next roll you buy may come in a collectable cartridge...

I've already seen people calling these 'pandas'. I wonder if the cans would be easier to reuse.

Slow news day? I always preferred the Ilford re-usable ones.

hey, it at least indicates that somewhere in Eastman Business park - someone is still think of making film. And it indicates that the film packaging has apparently not been transferred to to some minor company in the middle east.

The confectioning has been a major bottleneck - a big reason that a lot of film has been backordered a lot recently.

End caps made from "Tin Plate" once were common for type 135 cassettes. Though I doubt that they actually were made from tin plate (tinned steel plate) but assume instead zinked steel plate.
