Foma Fomatone is marvelous paper. Ektalure had several surfaces that are gone for good. One contrast grade.
This is a flashback. I went to a photography school in the 1970s and we were required to use Ektalure K. I used it for a few years and never considered it anything but neutral tone. Then I tried a box of (the old) Portriga Rapid when it was still current and never used Ektalure again. The Portriga seemed to me to have a brownish tone while the Extalure had a greenish tone. You had to selenium tone Ektalure to get rid of the green.
The contrast grade of Ektalure was about 3.I did a search here for Ektalure, I see lots about it, but nothing about contrast. It was mentioned that it only came in one grade, what would that be? I was gifted a partly used package of 8x10, so what sort of negative is suitable for use with it?
If my reading of the curves in the tech sheet is correct ( Highly unlikely!) it seems like it is suited to high contrast negatives?
I've got one unopened box of the R left, had it for 20 years. Got it from an old friend who had cases of it around and always said "Now I just have to print it all before I die"...then he died. I dont know what happened to his paper collection but you coulda filled a U-Haul with it. I'm going to Lith print it. As stated here, it prints beautifully if you're into Lith printing - but at 5 to 10 dollars a sheet if you can find it on eBay, probably going to let that ship sail after this one. Saw a box of 10 sheets of 20/24 for 35$ a sheet recently! Guys out there selling folklore. It is a lovely paper, but there are many more...and if you Lith, you can get similar lovely results with even older papers with no folklore attached.View attachment 407077
