It was a very pale yellow, sort of like watered light beer.That's an unbelievably long time!
I have always used zero air, but tap water, and I go through chemistry before it expires anyway so longevity of Xtol was never an issue for me. Aside from the two recent quality issues Xtol worked very well for me.
I posted a photo here at the time. I was shocked that it worked as well as it did. This turned up a few years after we moved. We had help moving. The bottle was under a sink in my darkroom, and I found it in our cleaning closet.
Air is the key. I have cans of 50 year old Dektol, from when EKCo made the stuff themselves, it's still perfect.
