The owner of Kodacolor trademark is Eastman Kodak. Clearly, Kodak Alaris is out of this.

A quick search in the same page shows that Ektar, Ultramax, Tri-X, Gold and Ektachrome are trademarks owned also by Eastman Kodak. I didn't find any film trademarks owned by Kodak Alaris.

Kodak Alaris is the exclusive distributor of some photographic films, they own nothing.

I think this should also be the final nail in the coffin for the argument that Eastman putting the kibosh on motion picture film sales to stills photographers, was all due to Alaris.
Clearly, if Alaris had enough sway to make EK enforce stricter terms on motion picture film sales, they would have never let Eastman do this.

Respoolers being too much of a drain to EK and their then more limited production capacity, while presumably being seen as "leeches" by EK themselves, seems good enough of a reason for them to put a stop to it, even if individual photographers got caught in the crossfire.
And even then, it doesn't seem like this is being enforced all that strictly as new respoolers still pop up, like Filmriss just recently.

The big news that is slipping past is Eastman Kodak is selling stills directly to distributors and consumers for the first time in over a decade.

Alaris was sold a little while ago and maybe the new owners don't care much anymore.

Private equity generally wants to squeeze as much out of their purchases as they can, so I doubt that.
And in any case, Ektachrome 100D had the crackdown before the buyout, and Vision3 after it.

As we are musing, I wonder if EK has bought back some of the licensing from KA.
Or perhaps they have worked out a deal to supply certain consumer products to the USA, leaving the rest of the line - including all Professional films - to KA.
I wonder who EK are using for distribution and customer support?
Perhaps KA, or Freestyle, maybe even CineStill, as they are providing their services for that to Photo Systems.
Unless they've done a lot of recent hiring, EK has little/no staff or infrastructure for that.

ColorPlus 200 has had "Kodacolor 200" branding on the 35mm cassette (though not the box) for a while now so it's likely the same as that.

Maybe Pro Image 100 and Color Plus 200

Most likely.

Eastman Kodak has a new trademark filed for Kodacolor May 30, 2025. ColorPlus 200 has Kodak Alaris on the box. Perhaps others more knowledgeable about recent Kodak events can make something from that.

That Eastman Kodak is 'able' to sell stills film directly without Alaris' input/blessing, it does make one wonder if there's such a bother over photographers getting their hands on rolls of Vision3 anymore?

Either way, I'll reserve my excitement until they start selling Kodacolor in bulk rolls... ;-)

Also: much LOL at Kodak 'proving' their commitment to film longterm by releasing the new Super 8 Camera. Would be very curious how many they've sold full price - if it's a three-figure number I'd be highly surprised. If they were serious about lifting Super 8's popularity with newer generations and selling a heap more film, they'd be making a modern under-US$500 reincarnation of the original M2, which should be perfectly achievable. Just give a C-mount for lots of manual lens option (light metering via an app, keep it simple), a pistol hand grip and a usable viewfinder (the original is like looking through a straw).

Has anyone actually seen the box?

For all we know, EK has licensed this, or bought back rights, from KA.

The fine print on the back of the box would tell us a lot.

Until this week, there has been no category for Still Film on the Eastman Kodak website - just motion picture film.
This is what is there now:

And this is all you find in the way of information:

It is essentially the same for the 200 ISO version.
Here is the link to the part of their website that deals with film: https://www.kodak.com/en/film/home/

I suspect that this involves Cinestill, at least in North America. I'll be interested if there's a low cost version of other products. It's not inconceivable that there could be black and white offerings. Verichrome 😁

Could this have to do with the recent debt restructuring that was mentioned on the forum recently?

Funny, I am trying to think of an example where the film description does not say the film has "fine grain," "high sharpness," and "wide exposure latitude." ;-)

Kodak Recording Film comes to mind ......

I am told by one major UK retailer that UK sellers have been told to "await the official announcement".

That reads to me like these films will make their way to UK and hopefully the EU in due course, but not imminently.

this is all very curious. EK re-entering the distribution chain for amateur still films....does that mean Kodacolor 200 and Color Plus are different products? Will there be a price difference? I am sure that as soon as people actually get their hands on some of the film, some answers will emerge.
