x2 on Silverfast Ai, it is really a whole new scanning regime with it. It is second to drum scanning on my 9000ED.

Back on topic:

B&H has 114 rolls,

EK Co. -7.78% @ $3.38

DJIA, -3.41% @ 7114.78

I've been using it more and more, lately. Just sent in 3 rolls of 135-36 (64) to Dwayne's today. Shooting more tomorrow for work stuff.

Just shot my first roll this saturday - Up until about last year I thought people only used slide film if they wanted to project slides...

I average about a hundred rolls a year for Kodachrome 64, and then mix in a few rolls of color print and B & W in addition to that.
I actually miss Kodachrome 200 more than the 25, I loved the stuff.

Thank you! That is a good amount. Do you use it just for casual shooting?

I try to shoot it as much as I can. I absolutely adore it for travel photography and that's about all I shoot in those instances. I love the skin tones and the "Kodachrome look". Even though I live in the Dallas area, there is nowhere near me that does E6 in house. If there were somewhere near me where I could get it done the same day or next day, I would shoot more E6. As it is, I send both E6 and K14 through WalMart for 4.88/roll, so I usually shoot KR64. It is one of a kind and once it is gone, nothing will be able to fill that void.

Candid shot on KR64:

Just to let people know, I was in the Scottish Highlands last week, in the middle of nowhere at the side of a Loch taking a photo, and randomly bumped into someone (just to bump into a person at all in these areas is often unusual!) who was shooting Kodachrome 64 with a Canon AE1.

They were local(ish) and said that whatever they shoot they have to send it for processing by post so whether it was Kodachrome or an E6 film made no difference.

It was an encounter I wasn't expecting! Maybe there are more people using it then we sometimes think.

Thanks for sharing that! It is great to know there are other out there! Out here in Massachuetts, in the last couple of years. I have only seen 4 people shoot film. 2 of the people where family memebers (one of which I got to go to film from digital ). I feel all alone shooting film in Massachusetts. Not that that is a bad thing...but I enjoy the times I notice someone else shooting film. I have heard places like India are very anti-digital. I don't know much, but if you thing about it, how many people in all small villages in India far far away from cities have computers and easy ways to get batteries all the time? Maybe we could get them to shoot Kodachrome if we had a cheaper way than ilfochrome to print it without scanning....

This actually brings up a point. As it becomes harder and harder to find a lab to process E6, K14 will actually become MORE attractive (not less). After all, MANY people who shoot Kodachrome shoot E6 from time to time in order to have it processed quickly at a local lab. And for those who shoot E6, the long wait time is probably one of the biggest disincentives to shoot Kodachrome. But if you have to send E6 out, pay for shipping, and wait a week to get it back just like Kodachrome, why not just shoot Kodachrome instead?

I agree Matt. I can't understand why film manufacturers don't have websites selling their colour films and include mailers or make mailers with different services available.
I think if High St minilabs stop film processing film Kodak and Fuji should adopt that model, hopefully Kodachrome will still be around.

E6 films are available in most countries in the world, and is still manufactured, and there are still many hundreds of labs processing them. Kodachrome on the other hand is only available in North America and the UK, except for some small quantities of private imports elsewhere, there's no sign that fresh film has been coated for the last two or three years and then there's the issue of just one processing lab.

So E6 is likely to way outlast Kodachrome in the market place.

I live in DFW, and although I'm sure there are labs somewhere around here that can do E6, they are not within skateboard range and so i would mail my film to them anyway...in that case, they may as well be in Kansas. I send my slide film to Walmart which takes 2 weeks. After finding out that Kodachrome is comparably priced to other good slide film, I added some to my shopping cart. If I didn't have a handful of E6 rolls in the freezer I would shoot nothing but Kodachrome. I have been a fan of the Kodachrome look since I was 8 years old, paging through my grandparents' National Geographic magazines and knowing that there was something magnetic about the images, even though the photographic process never even crossed my mind.

Someone needs to make film better. Somebody needs to find a way to make film a more attractive option. A new format or something.

???

I'm not sure what to make of this comment. Since there's not a lot of heavy lifting involved with using film, it's about as easy as it will possibly get.

At the risk of being a broken record, Kodachrome is amazing and I only wish it were more widely advertised so people know it actually exists. I thought it was discontinued, but no.

I think it is really sad that so many people have just walked away from Kodachrome since Kodachrome 25 went out. I have two roll to shoot....my first, and last....I will soon find out for myself.

I agree. More people need to know it is out there and know how great it is. The Kodachrome Project is doing great with this! They got me into Kodachrome....I think Kodak needs to push it for it to really work 150%. They should make an ad for it....

K25 was way superior toK64 which is why people keep make those comments. Unfortunate it was withdrawn you re dependent on how well it's been stored.

It has been discontinued in most of the world, except for the UK and North America, only small quantities of private imports and old outdated stock exist elsewhere.

I haven't used it for more than twenty years, I prefer the Fuji range of reversal films mainly Astia and Provia, I shoot 35mm and 120 and it's available in both formats, I live about two miles from an official Fuji lab.where they process it in two hours, so for me there's no contest.

Not true, it is still available throughout Europe, not just UK. Depends on your local camera stores of course, but here in Finland I can buy K64 both in camera stores and even in my local department store. I have also bought K64 in camera stores in Norway less than a year ago.

I just got 5 rolls back today from Dwayne's. Unbelievable stuff. I am going to shoot it this spring and summer as my only color film, I think. At least in 35mm. I would have loved to try it in 120, alas.

But I never would have tried it if it weren't for threads like this. Really, if not for the enthusiasm of Daniel Bayer specifically. So it's great to see this site keeping up the drumbeat.
