I have made 2 purchases from keh,
first was a lens in excellent condition - looked like new; and second was bargain graded camera and lens, camera had some scratches, but works perfectly, lens has one tiny scratch on the coating that doesn't affect image quality.
I would buy from them again and would not hestitate to get a bargain graded items

I just made my first purchase from KEH and received the items today. Everything I ordered (Camera body, prism and lens)was in Bargain condtion and I have to say I'm suprised at the condition. All three are better than I expected. And excellent customer service, too? You bet I'll buy from them again.

One thing I'll say that they're not so good on are lensboards - I can get brand new technika style lensboards that fit my Shen Hao for $20-30 each. Most of their used boards are $60-80 (I don't need to pay a $40-60 premium for the little Linhof logo). Other than that, they are an excellent place to shop for just about anything photographic.

A little off topic but just wondering if anyone has had any experience ordering from them from the UK? I can't seem to get accurate figures on the import duty and tax anywhere.

No experience with KEH, plenty with other imports from US. You of course have to pay shipping costs and then when the goods arrive, VAT at 17.5%, import duty which seems to be around £8 or £10 and a customs clearance fee which is £10 to £15 depending on what shipping service you use. I never ask shippers to lie or undervalue goods, things in small packages which don't look expensive sometimes get through without charges (items with a value under £18 do anyway).

David

Have a nice experience with KEH when I was buying during visiting US (with cousin credit card),but if you are not buying from USA, UK or Canada you can't pay with PayPal because outside this countries you can't have confirmed address.During 6 years and about 90 purchasing, with 100% positive feedback I still can't pay in KEH something for 100$ but on Ebay can bidding and pay for Leica with 3 lens (if I have money .With other way to brought something in KEH there is additional costs because everybody involve in money transfer want to take a small fee.For wire transfer KEH add 25$ bank fee on your bill no matter if you buy 10$ filter or 1000$ Leica.Yes it' possible to pay with credit cards but they want to send them copy of credit card and passport to confirm address (outside USA, UK and Canada).I think that is not very smart to send that kind of copy throw email or fax.I don't know for some other company that asking for copy of credit card and passport if billing and shipping address are the same.Just my 0,02$ (If I send with wire transfer total cost will be 25,02$)

If it is selling for a price near the KEH price, ALWAYS buy from KEH because of their 14 day return policy and their 30 day warranty.....

The warranty is now 6 months.

My experience is that you get better stuff from eBay... for a better price too. I've bought three times from KEH. One item was a Fuji GS645 in "Excellent condition" - it had deep scratch marks on the right side, the last item was a Pentax K2 that was in a "Bargain" condition - the iso dial was stucked and the exposure compensation dial also. So the whole K-mount area needed to be disassembled and lubricated. Would I buy from them again? Yes, if I can't find an item at eBay and desperately need it. My impression is, despite the mishaps I've had, that they are nice people to deal with.
At eBay, I have bought cameras, optics and other things and always been satisfied with the items, actually I've been overwhelmed regarding the mint condition sometimes. My feeling is that most eBay sellers are very serious sellers ( I just buy from sellers that receive >98% postive responses).

Ever try to return something you got from eBay? There are no return problems with KEH. I have spend thousand of dollars there and rarely had a problem. On the few times there were problems, they took care of them quickly without a hassle.

I have bought a fair amount of bargain stuff from KEH and it has all been very workable.

I have yet to need to return anything but they do offer that option so your risk is really low.

FYI: It is required at APUG that a new "should I buy from KEH" post is posted every week.

Well then let's bring it to the "next level" - I bought from KEH this week (but not last week  )

I can only sum it up this way, I have NEVER been disappointed with a KEH purchase. Well, let me rephrase that, the only remorse I have ever had was the feeling that I the condition of the item was too good and that I could have gotten away with a lower rated one.

Why bump this?
Why not? It's a question that gets asked continuously, and current opinions are more valid than old ones.

If you don't like it, why did you post in the thread?

One point regarding KEH's business practices in general:

If you order an item advertised as available at a particular condition (e.g. BGN) and they run out of it,
they'll send you one in better condition (perhaps EXC) at the price they quoted for the lesser item.

Consequently, what you received as a BGN product may not match the next BGN product.

Believe their grading. it's accurate. If you receive something better just thank them for being a reputable business.

I've bought an awful lot of stuff from them and never been disappointed.

I've been a big advocate of BGN grade from KEH, and I've had great luck...my EOS-3 and PB-E2 (currently for sale in the Classifieds) plus plenty of Bronica stuff and a couple EF lenses.

Ran into my first problem this weekend. An nFD 135 f/2 that I ordered is not indicating auto mode correctly to my T90. Of course I discovered this after they were closed for the weekend, so I'll need to call them on Monday. I don't expect any problems sending it back. But they don't have any others in stock .

I'll post an update on Monday.
