I've been missing my Mamiya 6 for a very long time, and finally decided to replace it. I spent many hours pouring through that danged auction site, and watching ads here and a couple of other sites, and finally made a purchase, and it arrived this morning. I popped for a Texas Leica! I now own a GW690II loaded with Tri-x and ready to go for a walk. I already miss the compactness of the folding Mamiya, and used to pack a Kodak Tourist until the shutter died, so I already love the negative size, just not sure about the monster hanging around my neck. First thing was to put an Optech strap on the beasty, and load her up. Checking the controls, not real thrilled with having to pull the built in hood out to access the shutter and aperture controls, which are a bit close together for convenience, I suppose I'll get used to it. Did I mention, this thing is a beast! I've read others reports about the size, I still wasn't ready for it in person (you should have seen the postman's face when I opened the box! he's my neighbor and knows what I do).It arrived a few days ahead of schedule too, very impressive (from Japan). Hey, I can always pack it around in my tandem kiddy buggy with my 11x14.

Good Afternoon, Rick,

The 690 is similar to my 670, of course. I don't think you'll be disappointed at all. The lens is terrific and produces 11 × 14 prints that almost equal the results from 4 × 5. Yes, the lens hood is a bit of a nuisance, but at least it's not likely to fall off and get lost. The bigger nuisance for me with my 670 is that night shots with long exposures are a bit awkward, but if I'm bothering with a tripod and long exposures, I'll usually just go with the view camera anyway. Have fun!

I have a GW670 II and a GSW690III and love them both. Printing negs from these two beasts are a real pleasure. These two are put in a Lowes backpack and I take them and a tripod and hike in Rocky Mtn National Park. And I'm a old fart... just ask whitetymorange!!
You are going to love the results you get from the Fuji.
