Hi all,

I'm using a Toyo 3.6x Loupe and wondering if it's good enough for 4x5 caemra? I'm thinking of getting a very cheap Arista x8 loupe if my Toyo isn't good enough.

Thanks,

That's really just about the optimum loupe...average eyes...average/general shooting situations.
Save your money and run with the Toyo. At that power, you see the image.
Much stronger, you start to see the grain on the ground glass.

I love my Toyo 3.6x. I also have a Schneider 8x loupe, I've found it picks up the texture of the ground glass and makes it harder to focus...

If the Arista is cheap get it and see for yourself. You'll then have it to look at your negatives.

I have four 3.6x Toyo loupes distributed among the various LF kits, both 4x5 and 8x10.

I really like them, better than the other loupes I've owned over the years. That's why I have four of them, and no others.

They are hard to find. I think if you put it up for sale you would see that it is considered very good for 4x5 and several other formats. I love mine and can't understand why they discontinued the product.

I didn't know Toyo discontinued that loupe, but it's the one I use for 4x5 and 8x10. It's an excellent loupe.

Yes, it's a good choice for 4x5--better than one of those cheap plastic 8x Agfa-type loupes that have fairly severe distortion and cause eye strain with extended use.
