Okay, so getting to your zip code. From zip code 20878 there is a Borders at 20926 FREDERICK RO, in Germantown. According to MapQuest it's 11 minutes from your zip code. You can call 301.528.0862 and ask them to hold a copy for you.
LOL

What? You couldn't call ahead for him and get them to hold one? Better yet, Yahoo Maps says you could have driven to that Borders in only 2 hours and 23 minutes and picked up a copy for him.

Jeeze, and you call yourself a publisher! :D

Well, the funny thing is I considered calling ahead, but it was past 11:30 PM and since I live in NYC, I don't have a car. Although I'm sure I could have invented a way to travel back in time to the point where the bookstore was open and buy a copy...you're right, I have failed in my job as a publisher. I'd resign, but then Dick Cheney would be president...oops, wrong line...

Maybe in a Beechcraft or Cessna. In an automobile you'd be hard pressed to make Delaware in that kind of time.

You are correct! Seems I was sending him to Germantown Pennsylvania!

I've done FL to NY 3 times. 2 out of the 3 I did it in under 19 hours. "I swear officer, I thought it said 155 miles per hour!"

Ah to be young again.

I feel sorry for Thom. Dealing with such a personality as David S can't do the blood pressure very much good.

I decided many months ago after several nasty p-mail messages from Mr. S that he would never get a cent of my money if it were the last magazine on earth. He is only one of two people on my ignore list.

Best of luck Thom, but ya better write off the 37.50.

Seriously, this is starting to get old. A six-page public thread about a private business dispute?

David's already posted Thom's delivery information. If Thom hasn't received the mags, it's not because they weren't sent. So I'm sure they can sort it out with the delivery company without the rest of the world needing a play-by-play.

A personality such as davids's might not be friendly and cordial, but that personality seems to have what it takes to get the job done in putting out a quality publication. I just called my local Borders bookstore to check if they had a copy of Focus last Saturday. I went in yesterday to pick it up and they were sold out. This happened in two different bookstores. I was lucky enough to get one of only four copies remaining in the Barnes & Noble in Astor Place. Whatever he's doing, he's doing it right and as a beginning photographer of black & white, I congratulate him.

Oh btw...i loved the third issue and my fiancee and I are thinking about purchasing a piece of Tom Millea's work. Seeing the work and now understanding the story behind the work, and the life that photographer has lived has made me appreciate his work even more.

Here Here!!!

What Cheryl said and what the Maniac said.....

David has takes some "hits" from this forum......it takes a tough skin and a strong determination (and some deep pockets) and belief in what you are doing to accomplish what he has done in 3 issues...a first rate fine arts magazine.......I subscribed....I like the magazine a lot.

I'd really like the personal issues to be dealt with one on one and off the forum....

and once again....it is a good magazine..if you are lucky enough to find one locally grab it and or request it to be stocked.

Depends how you look at it. This thread has provided a graphic insight of the problems of starting up a business, particularly a one-man band type of business, on a shoestring. It has shown above all that the business owner will find a frightening number of demands on his/her time but still needs to make 100% sure that efficient systems for distribution and customer service are in place, because if they're not, you will firstly lose vital goodwill and secondly discover that dealing with individual distribution and mailing problems takes at least ten times as long as doing it right in the first place (not that you can hope to do everything perfectly the first time around, but it is true that you can only turn a profit on relatively low-priced items such as magazines on the right-first-time principle).

Yes, and dragging that business owner into a (now) seven page thread demanding that he explain himself, etc, takes even more of his time away from things like.... fixing problems, and preventing them in the first place.

Gotta disagree. It has shown above all what a disgruntled individual with an axe to grind can do with the Submit button on a webpage.

As a small business man, with a worldwide customer base, I can guarantee, you having an axe to grind accomplishing nothing, but perhaps, make the person who is the owner, really question if it is worth it....

David and I have had our differences, but have to say, from what I see, he is making a very strong effort to get things straightened out and moving forward.

And I agree, bashing the business man, trying to make a living and provide a product that is viable is probably best done in private...

Actually, David, this thread alone has generated 25% more traffic in the past week and a half to my website along with 15 new subscription orders and 5 single copy orders. It's like they say, any press is good press. And just to let you know, this business is not operating on a shoe-string. If it were, I would not be able to afford the ridiculously cheap advertising ($600 for a full page) and subscription rates along with the high quality paper and ink I use, plus the massive distribution I do for a magazine this new. With Hurricane's Rita and Katrina, my shipping has gone up drastically because UPS and FedEx use a fuel surcharge. I was extremely agressive in getting my magazine distrubted to newsstands nationwide for my first year and it's paying off with over a 60% sell-through rate on newsstands (I can back-up and verify that data to any interested party). To date I have had about 10 probems with magazine fulfillment orders. And what I mean by a one-man crew is that I am the Publisher and I don't have a seertary or assistant and I do everything myself. I have just hired a salesperson to assist me in sales efforts because I'm getting too much interest I can't respond to it all, plus I'm doubling the size of my writing staff and taking on an assistant as of 10/1.

Profit is not made through magazine distribution or subscriptions during the first two years of magazine publishing. That's what advertising dollars are for. This company has grown far beyond my expectations and I am grateful for all of the photographers who have helped come me to this point...speaking of which, I need to mail out another order to a photographer.

What nasty P-Mails? Brother, after you e-mailed me attacking my political opinions, I then responded to your E-Mail in which your only response was to call me a troll. Remember, Tim, if you can't get help at Charter, please get help somewhere. Is there a way for me to lock this thread? It's old by now, Thom's magazines were delivered, if anybody has any fulfilment orders or questions, please private message me or e-mail me. I will respond as quickly as possible. And remember to support ALL fine art photo magazines, not just mine. There are several quality publications out there that warrant your attention and interest.
