Inexpensive 6x9 : Arca Swiss Reflex

Well, it's not very expensive yet...cheap Arca Swiss reflex 6x9

At least, it's still a - - - LOT - - - cheaper than the Bessa II w/ Heliar on sale at ePrey right now from one of APUG's valued members.

If we didn't think the price was going to sky-rocket within the next 1,5 day, AND if we didn't have a Pecoflex already AND if it would have been the 4x5"version, we might have only told this after we'd the won the auction...

But now, now we will gracefully receive thanks from all you Arca Swiss Reflex hunters, knowing it is one of the most elusive cameras in our 6x9/4x5" world.

That is indeed a beautiful camera, and I think the price will skyrocket by the end. I'm happy with my 5x7" Press Graflex in the big-SLR department, but if you come across an 8x10" in decent or at least repairable condition...

Any idea what the Broncolor IRS device is? Is that a small infrared flash unit of some sort? You can get a look at it in the picture of the lens shade, and in one of the other pictures you can see that the thing with the red plastic has a foot that would fit into a flash or accessory shoe.

Nevermind--It's an IR slave unit. I'm guessing that it's just happenstance that it came with the camera.

Yes, we wondered about that too. It's probably a IRS remote control for broncolor Pulso 2 systems. With this device, you can synch several studio flashes. But really this is just an educated guess, as we never use flash.

Holler holler! I know what you mean. Something with capuccino or medium format?
We have a friend with one of these. Pain in the ass to use & maintain, but what comes out is nice.

First Post but have looked a lot! 3-4years ago I was put on to a contact who had access to a university darkroom which was surplus to requirements, in it was 2 prize items 1. A durst 138s enlarger with all accessories although the biggest print size they used to do was 8x10
2. the entire outfit of tanks, washing, trays ,meters focus scopes etc,
as I left the chap said to me don,t forget the lens? now I did not know anything about a lens he came out with a wooden box pine ply clear finish
lovely finish opened the lid and their was the 6x9 arca swiss monorail mint
identical to the post above with a 100-175mm schnieder lens but no binocular viewer but a very lighweight
6x9 camera .
Oh the price $600 au

Have you put the camera to use at all? Or sold it on to another party?

Arca Swiss 6x9

The 6x9 does not get the use it should,as I use 5x4 cameras as well one a cambo and a pacemaker speed graphic the arca gets used when I do product shots.
But it blew me away when I saw the other arca on ebay and the interest,
at least I now roughly know how old the camera is.
The staggering thing regarding the university,s position was that if I did not buy the equipment they would dump it, this was caused by the greed of the camera stores who were contacted about the equipment and wanted to charge them on top of selling the darkroom eg:uni delivers to store and the recieve no reinbursment and then gets charged for handling as well!

Norm, the first Arca Swiss reflex I saw was a 4x5. Basically a Graflex on a monorail, as is the 2x3, but doesn't seem to be hand holdable. Perhaps fine tools for use with longer lenses, but can't use even a normal lens, so somewhat limiting. Makes me begin to understand the apparently perverse 4x5 Peckham Wray camera, sort of a 4x5 Periflex.

Oh Dan, now you throw me in confusion. Peckham Wray? Periflex? What are they? Got do some googling fast...

As you know, I have an equally perverse Pecoflex, sort of a 6x9 monorail. Shortest lens useable, the 150mm, a light tele on that size. It's definitely not handholdable (I bet even Ole would agree) and a lot heavier that most 4x5" monorails - which makes me a sort of masochist, hauling that thing around for shooting buildings. Perhaps I'm a medium format shooter with a 35mm SLR heart who hasn't come to grips with the facts of large format photography?

Norm, the Corfield Periflex was an LTM camera with LTM register and NO rangefinder. It had a periscope device that slid down behind the lens. Down periscope, focus through the lens, up periscope, stop down, compose through the viewfinder, and shoot. I had, briefly, a Periflex 3 with a periscope that descended when the film was advanced, rose when the shutter was released; earlier versions had manually-operated periscopes.

The Peckham Wray camera was a 4x5 press/aerial camera with lenses mounted on cones with focusing helicals and a periscope device for focusing through the lens. Its a long story, but a couple of years ago I bought two P-W lens cones with 135/4.8 Wray Lustrars for the shutters, #0 Synchro Compur Ps.

The periscope gives, for focusing if not for composing, some of the effect of an SLR but doesn't require a long register to clear the mirror.
