Hi,
i've just received my lens from the bay...
it look great but i have a big doubt...
i have no experience with repro lens,
what is this little lever is used for ????

Looks like it is a Waterhouse stop. It could also be a cover for the slot that accepts the Waterhouse stop.

Maybe it's pre-set leaver? You select f stop then open iris for easier focusing (focus shift??) and then close it to working f stop?? Haven't seen this feature on repro lenses, but who knows?? Waterhouse stop?? Maybe, but it looks like engraved f stop scale next to it. Gelatine Filter slot?? USSR relied more on thick, heavy, glass filters.

If you've ever looked at a Goerz Artar you will know exactly what this is. The slot visible accepts Waterhouse stops, or filters. The tab visible either moves a cover over the slot, or is a tab on a filter/stop. The F-stop scale relates to the milled ring above the slot.

more informations :
1. the lever can be mooved (turned)
2. it can't be removed (strange for a waterhouse stop)
3. and more strange when i turn it, it didn't affect anything on the glass plate...
i keep digging

It looks very much like a sliding cover for a Waterhouse stop slot, so it will not have any effect on the lens that is visible - If it is a sliding lid it is there to keep dust and light out

By the way, has anyone ever encountered a Repro Claron or Artar that actually has the WH stops? - And while on the subject of lens bits, where did lens mounting flanges disappear to? - Is there a hoard of flanges deep in the bowels of the Brasil defended by a terrible dragon?

Me? No. I've had only one Repro-Claron, a 55/8, and no Artars at all. But I do have an Apo-Nikkor, an Apo Saphir, and a Process Nikkor all in their original boxes with Waterhouse stops.

I don't have a terrible dragon and I'm not in Brazil but I do have odd flanges, mainly from repro lenses, in a drawer. This because I front mount most of my repro lenses. They screw into cup-shaped adapters that in turn screw into a shutter. I've bought repro lenses with and without flanges.
