Les Mclean hinted very strongly that this was about to happen a few weeks ago and Simon Galley, I think, confirmed it. I wonder if it is the same stuff but with extra shelf life as opposed to a better/different dev with extra shelf life. I was always happy with Ilfosol S and never had it long enough for its limited shelf life problems to manifest themselves but anything which exends its life has to be good.

Getting near the end of a bottle once I had to use the 1+14 instead of the 1+9. Couldn't see much of a difference in the negs. If economy is a priority then 1+14 is a fair trade-off.

Finally!
It doesn't mention what are the enhancements in detail though.
If they extended its shelf life for example as it was mentioned it the past, then how long does it keep now?

I hope I will be able to buy it in Greece...

I look forward to trying this, I hope dodger from Gunns camera shop is taking note :D

So... is it available yet?
Can I bug the greek representative for stocking it?

Dear all,

I told you it was coming...........'oh ye of little faith', biggest improvement is indeed to the shelf life and keeping properties of the product, you will see a major improvement. First shipments should just be arriving in the USA now.

Who cares about the USA? How about ol' Europe here?
I mean, we gave you democracy and all you ingrates, how about some little Ilfosol?

I'm hoping Canada will be on the export destination list. I want to try this developer with my PanF+ film.

for PanF+ would this be better than DD-X?

Haven't tried DD-X, but Ilfosol-S sure does rock with PanF+ and FP4+ and even HP5+.
Its my developer of choice even though its small bottle and short life are big disadvantages.
Ilfosol 3 cures all that, so I am very happy to "upgrade".
I hope they bring to Greece.

To Mr.Galley: Is Ilford replacing Ilfosol S with Ilfosol 3 or will they be sold together?

Dear Arigram,

ILFOSOL 3 will replace ILFOSOL S : European distribution is imminent for new distributor orders :

Note : Understand you gave us democracy....but it was actually your weather we wanted !!! oh, and the beaches and Athens at night but Nana Mouskouri....not so sure ...........

Kind Regards

Simon, what can you tell us about the life of this product in part-used bottles?

Regards,

David

Dear David,

It will have significantly better keeping properties than the current product: Please remember if storing part used concentrate drop a few marbles in so as the dev is aligned with the bottle top.

I just informed my local (cretan) distributor of the change of Ilfosol S to Ilfosol 3 and right on time as I have only a couple bottles left and plenty of things to photograph. I hope you will be sending some our way soon or I will ban you from visiting Greece (got my contacts) and send Mouskouri to keep you company at the office.

Are you going to be publishing the technical information soon?
If I am not mistaken, only the keeping properties have changed
and developing methods and image qualities will remain the same.
Are there changes in the bottle sizes?

ILFOSOL 3 will only be available in 500ml bottles : I am sure tech sheet is the same but I will check :

As a note, Damkalidis, the greek representative of Ilford products is not informed of Ilfosol 3, at least the woman I spoke to was not. She told me she will care only when the current stock of Ilfosol-S is gone.

I had a look at the Technical Information PDF, and the only differences I can see are shorter development times and fixing for 2-5 seconds instead of 2-5 minutes - but that's got to be wrong surely!

Also, notice that the storage times are the same - maybe that's a mistake.

I notice the Rapid fixer has changed too... The same new bottle design as the Ilfosol 3.

There seems to be some conflicting info on the bottle. It states 1 to 4 for film and 1 to 9 for paper on the outside, and when you peel back the label, it says 1 to 3....?

Not tried the Ilfosol 3 yet, i normally stick to DDX but my local store had none - so time for a change!

Are there deliveries towards Belgium?? I'm dying to know which shops would sell them. I certainly want to try it.

£4.85 in Colliers photo emporium in Swansea (Wales)

I've just used it 1+14 on a 120 roll of Delta 400, and the results look good. Good contrasty negs, that have good density. Haven't had chance to print them up yet, but I'll post some up when I do.

Be interesting to see how it works with FP4, which I'm running through a No.2 Autographic Brownie presently. I've not been too much of a fan of this film at 35mm, as I felt the negs were always not dense enough.
Scientific analysis? No, just personal so don't flame me :D
