Andy,
I forgot to tell you I just ordered some for you too. It'll take three or four days to get there from Michigan. It's a little less gloomy here right now, but still no orb. I'm heady out to snap in the next hour, orb or no orb.
The sunshine never came yesterday, but I shot a roll of GP3 anyway. Developed it in Ilfosol3 for 9.5 min. at 70F. Way overcooked it and I also slightly over exposed it. Sun is out today, so I'm going to try again. We'll see if the negatives look as good as my HP5+ negatives in Ilfosol 3?
John, what did you say that bright orb was?
Grand Rapids radio this morning said that we've had one one thousandth percent (0.0001%) of available sunshine so far this year.
Somewhere on the net I saw a clever use of an o-ring, of the diameter of the bottle neck, to be inserted into the cap (at the level of the cardboard stopper).
This avoids air to diffuse the cardboard stopper and enter the bottle.
That way Ilfosol 3 remains crystal clear for over 6 months even in partial full bottles.
I am delighted to report that two and a half years after starting my journey with Ilfosol 3, it is still producing the goods for me without any signs of failure. As suspected, proper storage is the key, and the 100ml Calpol bottles have worked for storage times in excess of a year with zero oxidation. I am still only using HP5+ as I see no reason to change.

Thanks for the update and your results speak for themselves.
Just out of interest, do you dilution 1+9 or 1+14?
a bit off base...think the car photo from the 'op' is a Triumph Mayflower. The stately home design didn't really work on a small car and proved to be unpopular.
From the days when cars didn't have to all look the same, as they do now.
Really lovely, rich photos, John.
Thanks Andrew. I have been trying Ilfotec HC lately, as I have most of a litre at hand, but no matter what I do, it isnt as good as Ilfosol 3. I know you have great experience with Ilfosol, and from what I can discern, it is very kind to the highlights in an image. HC-110 and Ilfotec HC just seem to blow highlights and even in harsh light, Ilfosol delivers the goods. This photo was taken in Lanzarote sunlight which is harsh at the best of times.
@John Bragg you definitely have a style, sir. I suspect some of this comes down to scanning too, you're very protective of both the shadows and the highlights. And speaking of Ilfotec HC, for some reason it works pretty well in combination with HP5+ in large format, see below. But for 35mm I seldom use it.

HC-110 is reputed to give an upswept curve, so extra contrast in the highlights is not surprising.
Thankyou Steven. I like your photos with HP5+ in HC. What was your rated speed on these ? I rate HP5+ @ ei200.
