It's just crazy that Fujifilm doesn't sell an ISO 400 speed film in 120 size.FX changes don't have any immediate impact I think. If you sell products internationally you buy FX forwards to guarantee your price is stable over a period no matter where the FX rate moves.
Anyways, Kodak and Ilford films are equally expensive in Japan. What I find outrageous is that Ilford chemicals sell at 5x the price!!
Five times!
I would live in Japan regardless of film prices.I'm so glad I don't live in Japan anymore!

I expect that almost all of the cost comes from the costs to package and distribute the chemistry.Yet, Kodaks and Ilfords chemistry is likely made by one and the same 3rd party.
It's funny pricing for products with minimal R&D in the last 40 years or so.
Hopefully it's a silly importers mistake by a fresh out-of-college employee and nothing permanent.
You're funny. Siriusly, what would we do without you? Here is what you need to do, ericdan. Fly to Australia, buy Ilford film at their prices, then fly back to Japan. Then the next time you buy Ilford film in Japan, it will feel like such a bargain. Repeat as often as necessary.
Shipping!I wonder why the chemicals are so expensive.
hmmm, then I wonder why powder chemicals are the most expensive. that somehow doesn't make sense.Shipping!

Japan is extremely protective of local (native) producers of anything.

Kodak powders sell at 'normal' prices in Japan.
Again, a bag of Microphen is over 30 dollars while D-76 is 5, x-tol same. Even T-max liquid is cheaper at 5L than 1L of Microphen.
