Do you guys like rain? @John Wiegerink, you can be "on the water" eight months out of the year.
@mschem just apply for a temporary workers visa. Tim Hortons will take you, then.
Andy,
Can you clarify! Is that on the water or is that in the water? How is the humidity in the late summer months? I don't mind heat, but after Southeast Asia and Quantico, VA duty stations when I was younger, high humidity + heat is out. Southwest Michigan can be bad enough in late July and August. Enough to mold your 120 backing paper!😓

I lived in southern Japan for many years. That Summer humidity is a killer. It can hit low 30's C here in Summer, but humidity is moderate.

Mike,
Let me know if you find anything in the Vancouver are! My wife and I are looking for a place also. On the water if possible and it doesn't have to be big. I'm not selling my cameras or trading. I'm renting a U-haul trailer. Well, maybe a truck instead.

Vancouver Island is your best bet.
Hike, sail , golf or ski most times of t he year, not so much of the wet coast Vancouver weather!
Wont tell you where I live; dont wish to inflate property values!

I lived in Victoria for 6 years. It still get a ton of rain in the Winter months...and then you have to deal with the ferry. But... I LOVE Victoria. Loved my time there.

Speaking of Victoria, I saw my first Hasselblad there...at UVic, while I was studying art (1986). A student in the photo program was showing it off. Seriously meant nothing to me then. Thinking back, he must have been a rich kid. I only had a K1000 that I picked up from the pawn shop for $80, to document my artwork. Still have it! 😁

I contact proofed some Hasselblad negatives this afternoon. Pretty sweet. I love square format. My first camera was a wind up motor winder Kodak Instamatic.
I was the only one shooting Verichrome with a K2 yellow filter

Maybe you just need an Instamatic Reflex ?

Tics all the boxes. German optics, SLR, square format.

Don't buy the Blad, it's not waterproof. That means for 11 out of 12 months you can't use it in the lower mainland. Have I talked you out of it?? 😀

Oh my yes, with all the rain Andy talks about where he lives he's either going to need a waterproof camera or an underwater housing for his new toy.

Like all wet coast photographers, Andy most likely has excellent Goretex expertise!

I'd be more worried about all the darn bears. Especially given ones doughnut fondness. Accidentally wipe a little maple bacon frosting on your pants in the darkroom, walk out later to take a few frames and wham. Climbing a tree doesn't work, the black critters will climb right up after you, the big ol brown bears will just shake the tree until you fall out.🤣😂

Definitely need a small camera to run from the bears. Or a hefty Hassy to swing at them?

Spent two years living in Vancouver. Constant rain. Be ready for that.

Not my experience. Two weeks of rain, three days of sun, three weeks of rain in constant rotation. True, the rain is kinda misty and locals seem to ignore it. I got used to riding my motorcycle rain or shine.

I've been here since '02, and I've never seen 2 weeks of rain in the Summer. In Winter yes, as well as the mist. Our lawns are brown in the Summer...green in the Winter. Right now, right outside my window... Pretty typical for this time of year...Not raining, but it sure poured all night! Personally, I can't stand all the rain! I grew up in Saskatchewan. Yes, the Winters are bloody cold, with heaps of snow, but it's blue sky and sunshine the majority of the time...Do I want to move back there? Hell no! 😆
