Not my experience. Two weeks of rain, three days of sun, three weeks of rain in constant rotation. True, the rain is kinda misty and locals seem to ignore it. I got used to riding my motorcycle rain or shine.

Been driving up to Vancouver in early August for the last several years (to fly up the coast for salmon fishing) and it has always been very pleasant, and a nice break from the heat of eastern Washington.

80 years later, shouldn't the uniform be one of a "narco" 😄

She's missing her mask. The required uniform in the U.S.today is a mask. Funny, they wouldn't wear one during the Covid outbreak, but can to intimidate folks. I just broke my Medalist II out of mothballs, the old girl is all tuned up and ready for defensive purposes as well as an occasional picture or two.

Medalist, camera of Antifa for 8 decades.

Yes, the Kodak Medalist cameras are real patriots for sure. The Medalist II I just went over and tuned has a nice "Brand New" front finder glass thanks to you Dan. Seems to work fine. The view looks a little different and I can't explain it, but maybe I'm just looking at it through a very clean, new finder and that's the difference? I am going to eventually put the other front viewfinder glass in a Medalist I I'll be overhauling to sell later this winter when I have more time. When I do I will video the process. Dan, have you installed any yet and what's your opinion? Sorry for straying a little here.

Folks, can we please back off a bit from the politics, as per the Photrio rules?
I'd hate to have to restrict a moderator from posting in his own thread

I'd be more worried about all the darn bears. Especially given ones doughnut fondness. Accidentally wipe a little maple bacon frosting on your pants in the darkroom, walk out later to take a few frames and wham. Climbing a tree doesn't work, the black critters will climb right up after you, the big ol brown bears will just shake the tree until you fall out.🤣😂

Did someone say bears? Taken at home on Kodiak Island some years ago :

(Taken with an old Sony point and shoot from a very careful distance...)

That's roughly a 3yo at about 900lbs give or take. The really big ones are shy and avoid all human presence (mostly). I will stipulate that the BC bears are much the same AND they have those giant all white variants that are just beastly.

Brown bears don't much worry me. Black bears are real pests though and even at "only" 350 lbs, they can still be killing machines. But the most deadly of the bunch - one of only four apex predators that actively hunt humans - are Polar bears. They are nasty, unpleasant and have a baaaaaaad attitude. (The others are lions, tigers, leopards, and maybe you can count crocs snatching people when they enter the water, though they don't actively hunt them on land.)

Spent two years living in Vancouver. Constant rain. Be ready for that.

Anyone who has lived on the West coast of Canuckistan or the NW corners of the US know that this isn't "rain". It is something called "liquid sunshine".

On a more photographic note, my photography jumped quantum leap when I learned how to expose and process film and print for gray, dreary days, with- or without rain. There is a kind of pastoral peace to be found under those lighting conditions, but it does take work to visually exploit it.

True, my two years there were the wettest on record. I did love it there. Good luck.

The 'wet' coast of Vancouver Island is a magical place for such photos; thinking of taking a days drive there next week.
No Hasselblad's will be involved but possibly a Mamiya 645 and a Autocord.

I grew up in Saskatchewan. Yes, the Winters are bloody cold, with heaps of snow, but it's blue sky and sunshine the majority of the time...Do I want to move back there? Hell no! 😆
I'll always take the prairies in winter. Cold I can deal with, I dress warmer. I can't deal with the grey and overcast. Calgary is the second sunniest city in Canada (Medicine Hat is the sunniest), so living with the sun all the time I find the grey really takes a toll on my metal health.

I visited Vancouver in February one year and it was clear blue sky and sunny. The locals said it was the first time they had seen the sun in 6 weeks. I'd slit my wrists before I had to deal with that.

I hear ya, but I was just in the back yard with just a bunny hug on, raking leaves...wet, soggy leaves....

A chinook is coming tomorrow, supposed to be 19 on Wednesday....

Your forecast says 9C for Wednesday... 19 would beach weather!

Have you bought a Hassy yet?

i spent a week last August on the Sunshine Coast and part of two days in a Provincial Park. I came away with 15 wonderful images made with my Hassy + 80mm lens. I hope to go back and will bring the same outfit, maybe witha couple of other lenses. I’m thinking of giving up large format.

Back to basics, talk me out of a Hasselblad!
I have owned and still own some highly regarded glass .
That said , within my collection of negatives the "best" photos are not always produced by the best of the best equipment but by myself when my mind was focused!
I appreciate the lure of buying into the most advertised or discussed camera systems but it will not improve your photographic output.
Having seen the original posters (Andrew) work /input , I feel he has nothing to gain by a move to the 'elite side' other than self esteem!?
