Yes, Andy sure opened up a can of worms with this thread and those worms are now crawling all over the place. Andy does nice work with the equipment he's got and will do just as nice with the 500CM.Hopefully! If it is in good condition you'll surely enjoy photographing with it. Beats endlessly banging away on a keyboard!
It's funny, well really not, but my wife and I said we were really going to travel when the kids were gone and she retired. We travel less now than when we had kids home. I got to really push her to go anywhere unless it's to see the kids, grandkids or great grandkids. That sucks!I'm waiting for more YouTube videos! Having more than 2 exposures per expedition may take some getting used to
Re: warm places. Native Iowans just bleach white and desiccate, my wife who's from NYC flies to Mexico.
When I was a kid it was the summer 3 week trips west and north to enjoy the mountains and cool air. Spent enough time in Canada to truly love the country.
Andy,
Are you saying there are palm trees in Victoria?
It will only be the beginning, mate!
Matt,I think I remember seeing them there.
We have them here in South Delta, on the other end of the ferry to the Victoria area.
They are actually a bit of an affectation - they will grow here, so people plant them in order to be able to show them off to people from Toronto or Winnipeg or Regina!
The city has them planted in the median down the centre of our main road!
Matt,
I would have dreamed they could grow there. Victoria, AUS. yes, but Canada? Are they a special palm species? Are they the same as we have in the Deep South?
We spent a week in Nova Scotia last summer. It's so stunningly beautiful out thereNeed to visit The Maritime Provinces. I could spend some serious time just chilling out.
@Andrew O'Neill
We approach the 2 month anniversary of this thread. At that date, you are required by law to buy a 'Blad. No, really. Ask yer lawyer...
I just wasted 4 or 5 hours trying to make something work from Hasselblad negatives. That wouldn't have happened if I was using my 6x9 rangefinders.

Thanks Andy!According to Google AI:
The most common palm tree in Victoria, BC, is the
hardy Windmill Palm (Trachycarpus fortunei), due to its ability to withstand mild frosts, but other species like the California Fan Palm (Washingtonia filifera) and European Fan Palm (Chamaerops humilis) also thrive in the city's mild, humid climate, with enthusiasts growing a variety of Trachycarpus subspecies and Sabal palms
That is really something! I'm trying to figure out what palm variety to order so I can have one on my beach at the cottage in Lake Station, MI.. Looks like a Jelly Palm is the only one that might survive our cool weather.Just a few blocks away from where I sit:

Looks like that internet image was taken closer to summer though
Matt, is that in Tsawwassen?
Come on Andy, why would any of us here want to talk you out of it. You should suffer the "Hasselblad sickness" right along with the rest of us stricken suckers. Besides, it's only money! There was a sign above a bar I used to frequent in my hometown that said, "Money is like manure, it doesn't do any good unless you spread it around". So spread it Andy!I have arranged to meet the seller tomorrow at precisely 1400. Tim Horton's. Maple Ridge. If anyone is in the area, there is still time to drop by and talk me out of it. I'll buy you an apple fritter for your trouble.
Careful. Some unscrupulous individual might show up and start a bidding war.I have arranged to meet the seller tomorrow at precisely 1400. Tim Horton's. Maple Ridge. If anyone is in the area, there is still time to drop by and talk me out of it. I'll buy you an apple fritter for your trouble.

What do you think caused the problem?
