Yes, the good old U.S. of A. is not exempt from that either, that's for sure. And if prices for housing, food and other goods go up and wages stagnate, go down or people here start losing their jobs, you probably won't have to drive two miles to see such drastic economic difference.

That is so true. I fixed copiers for 50 years and we kept trade in for parts machine, but after a short time it always seem to be the same parts that fail so eventually you end up a 90% whole machine that only takes up space.
 
What's the you have to buy it price for the older 500c/m with silver 80mm and back? Quick replies would be great since it probably won't last long.

There is one on ebay for $1380 Cdn. Not sure if that is a "have to buy it price", though... It's looks pretty sexy with that silver lens.

I have been toying with the idea of getting an older silver set to have master restorationist Adrian Prada work his magic on it. He has done some mind blowing work on other cameras so I think this relatively average from him 500CM gives an idea of how he thinks:

Dora Goodman used to do them as well but she seems to have fallen off the map after going into 3D printing of hybrid MF cameras.

I don't *need* another Hasselblad, but I sure want to do one of these customs...

Do yourself a favor and buy something newer. Else you’ll end up posting another silly thread entitled, “my Hasselblad doesn’t work because it needs servicing. woe is me. What should I do now?”

Well of course the operation has to be sound, I still expect to fully use these instruments in my performances among my audience and the resultant visuals riffs remain front and center. A pretty instrument that is never in tune is no instrument at all.

Which brings me to my next point…

Given how artists can be found to dress the part they believe them selves to be or a musician can have custom guitars made to suit a heartfelt vibe, I find it more than a bit strange that by some accord of established technical expectation, personalization of a photographic instrument beyond what the manufacturer has created is often seen as going too far afield to be useful and maybe even an impediment to its inherent function.

I am the reason my photographs happen, if I want to have fun with how my tools mesh with a mood, the vibe is all me and it all becomes the dialect of how I draw people in.

It was kind of nice just using the telephone camera. Point.....Shoot. My wife really appreciated the will power that I showed. I still wish I smuggled along the Holgon and a few rolls of Gold...🤫
Now it's time to focus on the Hasselblad acquisition...

Most of the artists in a certain dress is an affectation designed to create a visual separation of the "artist class" and is irrelevant to the quality of their work. In general, drawing attention to any kind of artist over their work, reflects poorly on that work.
 
Back on track here... Before I went off to Cuba, the owner of the kit that I'm interested in, let me play with his 500CM, and three lenses. It was quite lovely to use handheld (prism attached, and hand grip). I ran a roll of FP4 through it, which came out nicely exposed, and developed. Sadly, pretty much all the frames were slightly blurry, as it was an overcast day (typical for this time of year), and no tripod. Still, it was fun to cycle through the lenses, and fire the shutter. I would say that sound is way sexier than my RB...

I love the OG* Hasselblad flash grip. It's perfect. I tried one of the fully adjustable "Snap Grip" that Hasselblad sold at the end. Not as nice the original non adjustable version works better for me. The Snap Grip was a joint effort with Sunpak.
The 500 cm is a perfect camera, no need for ttl flash etc. Just the purest form of Viktor's dream. If you want to spice it up get an Acute Matte screen, no metered prisms, just pure Hasselblad.

My sense is that @Ai Print is both a dedicated and driven photographer, and someone who has fun with what he does and what he does it with.
There are/were professional photographers who sought out and used heavily yellow Hasselblads.
Getting a Hasselblad recovered with exotic looking materials so it can sit on your shelf is very different from choosing something more fun when your Hasselblad needs recovering anyways, and you get to smile whenever it comes out of the case/bag.
Sheesh!
