The radio was playing Erasure's "old" hit, and my thoughts wandered off to...cameras. How strange!
Or rather one specific camera (out of my oversized "collection" of 40-50 cameras, from Minox 35 ML to RB67), the lovable Yashicaflex S.
The problems began when I noticed that the shutter speeds and focusing were off, so I took it to service. Being an old Yashica, the leatherette cracked and fell off as the repairman had to open up the front parts.
With it's good looks gone, I ended up painting the front green (yes, a nice colour !), but in the process some of the small washers fell out, pushing the focusing-issue back to square one. And later I dropped it on the floor, causing the nameplate / low light metering to malfunction.
Yes, you can fix all that, but the reason I'm not willing to put any more money into this "project" is the very dark finder. The camera is useless outdoors, it would need a brightscreen of some sort, but for now: back to the closet. What do You think I should do?

Disassemble it as completely as possible, learning about camera mechanisms along the way.

Disassembling would not be a problem, putting things back again is not an easy task. And You can feel the quality in this one, it's very much like a YashicaMat, so I really don't want to turn this old beauty into a pile of parts. And that is really the dilemma...

I like their music and some old instruments they used. This particular song has funny video, which I aslo like.
Modern pop music now often has over digitized vocals, which makes it torture to listen. Same like digital b/w, unnatural.

Trying to keep ten cameras maximum to be able to use them all.
If camera has no sentimental value and not in use, it is for sale as working or for parts if it is "project went wrong".

Yes, the sad thing about collecting too many cameras, is the time and cost You have to put into Your hobby if You want to keep everything running.
Two or three cameras could be the right amount for me, for somebody else one camera might be enough.

Pinhole cameras, how fun can that be? From what I've read about the history of photography, the early pioneers tried to get away from pinholes and put a lot of effort in creating good lenses. Why did they do that?

They have gotten away from film too and gone to digital capture.

People still shoot film, pinhole cameras and use alternative processes. Enjoy what you like!

When do I get to be right? This was Your turn, obviously! But those shiny pieces of glass are so nice to look at, with their coating in different colours...

Don't knock it until you've tried it.

And it's an ideal solution for a camera whose focusing mechanism is broken. No need to focus a pinhole.

I promise to try it some day. If you find some horrible and dead ugly pictures in the gallery, check out who has put them there...
