Yes I'm well aware of that. However I like to use fill flash for outdoor portraits, and 1/30th or 1/60th would require me to stop down to f11 or more depending on the time of day. 1/500 would let me use a much wider aperture.
If you are using a focal plane shutter you will be limited to the synchronization speed of 1/30, 1/60 or 1/90 seconds, depending on the manufacturer and model.
If you have a leaf shutter, you may be able to use X synchronization up to 1/500 second. I would think that the Rollei TLRs would synchronize up to 1/500 second.
