I processed my first roll of film on Monday night. I thought I had done a great job, but when a pro looked at the negatives she said they were over processed.
It was processed in D-76 at the 12 min. recommendation per Kodak. I agitated as per Kodak, the first 30 seconds and 5 sec. every 30 sec.
There are other factors that may impact the densities, how accuate is the meter and shutter on your camera? You need to test your film, camera, develper combo until find the correct match between what your personal film speed, your developer, and the paper you will be printing on. I have a
SA7 and SA9 both use the same meter, 1/2 stop differance, in MF I meter with 2 hand held meters, a spot and a reflective both cailbrated by Tempe Camera, and they read within a 1/4 stop of each other. With both meters I have a 2 stop differance between my Mamyia Universal and Kowa 66. When I taught photo 101 I would have oll of the students meter the same out door view in average mode, in a class of 12 I would sometimes get up to 4 stops of differnce between the 12 35mm cameras. In my last class I had 2 students with N 90, almost new, 2 stops differance.
I am fairly certain that the shots were exposed correctly. I also had my digital, D-80, with me doing test shots for exposure and comparing meters between the cameras. The meters using the same lens, same ISO, etc agreed with in 1/3 of a stop. The digital exposures were dead on. I have tested the cameras side by side before and results were the same.
I am not sure if exposure for a digital sensor is the same for film? Have you compared your D80 and 35mm with color? My SD 10 seems to match my SA 9, but I have not done a side by comparsion of test shots. But if your meter is accurate then you need to reduce the development time, try a 10% or 20% reduction.
If you had mixed the D-76 just prior to development, the developer can be 'hot' until you let it rest. I don't usually use mine for one day to allow resting and temp stabilization.

Beautiful girl! Very nice tone and contrast!
Why is HP5 and D-76 1:1 a no-no?
