it was designed by a porsche designer and sold under a different name
for all intents and purposes a kharman ghia is a porsche whether it has the name plate or not.
chris77 isn't attempting to fool anyone into thinking he is using tri x
he likes the characteristics he likes and wants to save a few euros, why not
learn/figure out how to master how a film might be manipulated through exposure and development to let it do what you want?

sure some people don't like to do anything but shoot every film at box speed and process in d76 "as recommended" and they are happy with that
not everyone likes or wants to do that, and nothing is wasted by learning how to USE film, not just use it.

i suppose appearences are important to a lot of people,
they are unimportant to others.
if under the hood it and behind the wheel
it drives like a car designed by the same person, that cost more
and is a target to be stolen it doesn't matter what name plate says it is - an unassuming car
that handles &c like a porsche.

the point is not to judge a book by its cover.

Which would you prefer - a 2017 Mazda MX-5 or a 2017 Fiat 124 Spyder?

the phrase "turned into" and...
missed the point.

if someone took a ford focus and put a cushy im in a living room suspension, bullet proof windows and doors
and removed the rear seat and put a couch in it instead, then modified the engine to have more
"giddyup" and installed a lincoln grille ( ike the customized vw bug > rolls royce front ends )
certainly they will have turned it in a lincoln. and if they intstalled a hydrolic suspension and a scrape plate even better.

i wasn't talking about performance being better, i was talking about customizing, transforming something into something else.

I have seriously thought about buying one with all three lenses and then again only with the 30mm lens. I just do not use my WideLux F7 very much and I just haven't fallen off the cliff yet.

Today’s tri-x has NOTHING to do with the tri-x we are refering to when we talk about tri-x. Unfortunately, newbies are victims of marketing as far as tri-x goes: they love tri-x but they don’t know why, they couldn’t separate it from delta400.

There is a lot of marketing in "the play" you are right.
An people who are new - often are infected from marketing out of blogs.
But on the other hand it is not soo bad.
Manufacturers today may have good times if they notice : "There is a talk about"
And - as we all have learned - even bad news are good news.

Classic grain Tri-X 320 is still made in sheets. The roll film 400 version is somewhat different, but certainly grainy enough to be annoying at times.

i am shooting tri x since 2014. i am aware that this new tri x has been reformulated before. i honestly dont care.
tri x - as i know it (120) - is a wonderful film.
the title of this thread indicated that i am looking for ideas/thoughts on how to achieve a ''similar look" with foma film .it was asked in order to gather inspiring ideas, nothing else.
thanks for respecting that.

ps. you should give minimal agitation a try. the edge effects enhance the beautiful grain pattern of tri x.
