How much film do you buy all at once?

I almost always buy in bulk: I buy 120 PanF+ and FP4+ five bricks of each at a time; 120 E6 (last time E100G, next time Provia 100 and Velvia 50) is purchased by the case (20 pro-packs). For 35mm, I buy HP5+/Tri-X by the 50 roll case, E6 generally a few bricks at a time. If I need (rarely) any C-41, I buy 3 or 4 rolls max.

When I am in local store - then I buy roll or two, just to support local bussines. On macodirekt or fotoimex I buy 10-20 films in one order, and soemtimes on ebay when I find something interesting and cheap.

It was fresh surplus and I could not refrain... When I got time it will be used for most different projects.

I usually get a few pro-packs at a time. I order enough from B&H to qualify for the free shipping. Sometimes, though, I order a LOT, like when I was planning for my trip to France in 2013. I shot 30-some rolls of 120 in 10 days, and carried surplus with me just-in-case (I think I brought 50-odd rolls of film with me to Paris).

I usually order a few rolls of 35mm slide film for my Stereo Realist when I order sheet film.

For 35mm b&w there are mostly for all kinds, bulks available. Price wise it saves 30+ %. I am in a process of having only bulks for b&w. 30.5m preferable.
For 35mm color film 10 canisters saves at least a canister, so I am buying 10 canisters a time.
For expired films it does not matter as long as I am not getting tired of the base fog

Forgot to mention that last year I bought 1200 ft of expired Cine film. It came out to about $.02 per roll so I couldn't pass it up. I plan to try removing the remjet after exposure and processing it in C-41 chemicals.

I never buy more than I expect to use in a twelve month period. This usually amount to about ten ~ twenty rolls (for 35mm or 120) or a box of 50 or 100 sheets of 4x5.

forgot to mention, i have had thousands of sheets of 4x5 and 5x7 film that i have used regularly
sitting on a basement shelf ... and when i had more disposable income i would buy 300 rolls &c of roll film
( 35mm and 120 ) at a time and leave them at room temperature ..

that said

buy what you think you will use in IDK a few months ? and enjoy not having to buy
film ever few weeks ..

My film buying is not really connected to my current need. I buy when I think I can afford it or when I have a little extra money. Some years ago my mothers passing left me with some little amount of money. I bought a lot of film. And a Freezer. Even with jnanian's obsession with telling people they don't need to refrigerate their film and paper I absolutely do believe in it and have a zub zero freezer with a life time supply of 8x10 and 120 film... arguably life time. Not to mention a very important direct duplicating film in rolls that was discontinued years ago and arguably more than I will ever use. Aside from that when I find I have a couple hundred dollars to spend that wouldn't threaten my survival, I buy a box of 8x10 film.

im not saying it doesn't help, im not saying if you want to you shouldn't do it, im suggesting
that for some people ( maybe .05% ) it mightn't really matter ... (and perhaps there
are more important things to obsess about than if one needs a 30 cubic foot freezer
for one's fllm supply when it might not be economically feasible, needed or ...

i have nothing in a freezer now, we just threw away $5oo+ of food that thawed and died when our
power went out for an extended length of time ... it makes me wonder if i had film in there instead of food
if it would have suffered the dumpster fate too ? does film go bad when it thaws and refreezes ? PE ?!

I buy 50-60 rolls every 5-6 months. Keeps me going for a while and does not take up that much space in the freezer (half a drawer out of 4).

I denominate my film and paper purchases in dollar amounts. Usually my online cart is about $350 when I am done shopping, but I have to trim it down to $150 or $200. I do that a few times per year. It's depressing how small of a box $200 worth of film comes in.

I admit to not shooting a lot of film, but how much I buy depends on how much is on hand and what trips or projects I have (or imagine I have) coming up. The other day I threw a five-pack of 120 Acros on an order to B&H for miscellaneous miscellany not generally discussed here. I sometimes go to 15 or 20 rolls if I think it will see use in a year or two and I'm low on a type I want to take on a trip.

It was strange seeing this post. The day it started, I had just received 100 rolls of 35mm film. It is advertised as 400ASA color print - 12 exposure - unknown manufacture - unknown expiration- pre-exposed name/slogan/statement on the bottom of the frames.
I bought it for the metal canisters for re-spooling my bulk film. I will shoot a roll of it just for giggles but don't plan on using the film at all except possibly for tests. I also would like to know just what is pre-exposed on it. It was 18 cents a roll and the cheapest I could ever find canisters for 35mm.

Normally, I buy a couple of 4-packs on sale and a half dozen rolls of 120 depending upon my budget.

I buy enough film to get me to the free shipping online. I also buy a few rolls of 120 or a handful of 35mm when I am in the local camera store. I don' keep a whole lot around the house between the free shipping price breaks and a local store with most common types of 120 and 35mm film.

This week I bought 5 rolls of TMax 400 and 5 of Adox CHS 100. That should be enough for the rest of the year (with the occasional help of some rolls of Velvia 50 I keep in the freezer for special occasions).
