How many enlargers do you have?

I'd be willing to bet that I know how your parents would vote .

They’ve got the room for it - the basement is as large as the upstairs, but it was never finished. So it’s mostly large storeroom(s) for things we don’t want to get rid of but are not sure what to do with. Since I’ve been living a nomads life for almost twenty years now, most of my things are stored down there - the enlarger is the least of it!

Where I live, there are no basements (the water table is too high). But if there were any, they would cost at least $250,000.00 to own ....

I have nothing against Omega B-8s but I might have given it away and kept the Valoy 2 and the Kodak Precision. In my mind, both of those are real "keepers". I don't have a Precision. and don't have room for one but some of the best B&W work in 16 x 20 inch came from MF negatives in a Kodak Precision "A" enlarger. Be sure to tell that 16 year old that, at any price, he may never be able to buy a better 35mm to MF enlarger than that for B&W, especially if it is equipped with the Kodak Enlarging Ektars it was designed to use.......Regards!

To each his own. The Valoy 2 IS a wonderful enlarger, but I don't use 35 mm any more and my Omega will do fine if I want to print any old negatives. The Kodak Precision is a good, and generally un-appreciated machine and will produce results as good as the Omega, but the latter, with a rotating negative carrier, inclined column, and filter draw is a lot handier to use. I gave away 50mm and 100 mm Projection Ektar lenses with the Kodak, but KEPT my 75 mm. I gave the kid an extra 80 mm Companon. I'm glad those two enlargers will be used; far better than sitting around taking up space and irritating my wife.

Four at present; a Durst SM-183 I bought 20 years ago with both Condenser and a CLS301 head and all the goodies for it; two LPL's a 4500II and a 4550 XLG and a Valloy II

Sold the CLS color head and bought a DeVere 5108. Just have this and one of the LPLs set up the others in storage. Really only use the DV.

At one stage I had 6! . . . .For now, operational-wise I guess I've got 1.5 enlargers on the go.

Which has just increased to 4.75 enlargers:

1x LPL6700
3x LPL6600
1x LPL7452 (head only)
1x Durst M305 now in bits - was in poor condition when I got it so a few pieces have been sold off. The remainder of the head is now sitting on my desk in the darkroom office.

I'm looking to unload the 6600s soon; didn't really require them when I picked them up, but I didn't want them to end up at a tip either.

all you guys with "LPL"s...
are those Saunders or is LPL another company?

From memory, same enlargers just different branding.

I think the US uses Saunders as their branding, while the UK/AUS/TH use LPL. If I need some spare parts off E***Bay at any stage, I always search Saunders/LPL - that picks up considerably more stuff.

I just downloaded a manual for an LPL6600 - it is branded Omega/LPL C660 and Saunders/LPL C6600.

Beseler 23C - currently used for 6x7 cm medium format negatives

I'm up to six now. Omega B2, D2, & D-II. Beseler 45MXT, Beseler 67CS and a really old Federal. Seems like the ones with the most 'tricks' fail the most. So, I would vote for the simplest - the Omega D-II 4x5. No fuss no muss! I just want one that works the month before printing for a show!

.... makes 8 enlargers. Way too many. And that is after selling 10 enlargers over the past 4 years.
Started selling again, wanting to dispose of the Fujimoto, Agfa, 1 Focomat 1c and the Durst 138s. Maybe the Valoy 2 as well.
I'm in The Netherlands so if anyone is interested, please let me know.

I'm down to two. I need to get rid of my Beseler 23c iii because it's only advantage over my Beseler 45MX is it's smaller size. But it would take up even less room if I got rid of it.

I used to have an Omega 67 color enlarger, but i sold it because I don't print color and don't like diffuser heads. I also had an Ilford 500h diffuser head for my 45MX, but got rid of it for the same reason.

1 x Condenser head.
1 x AC1201 head/controller (non-functional)

Two that I'm using. One for 6x6 and 35mm, and one for bigger stuff up to 4x5. I also own a couple of 1940s era Federal 4x5 enlargers, but I don't use them.

I only have two. A Saunders XL 4550 VCCE and a Focomat 1a.

Just two enlargers now, have gone through four in my own darkroom, have given two away.

I am happy with my setup right now as I have a smaller darkroom. I use a LPL 670DXL and a Durst Pro 4x5. Ive spent way to much money and time getting all the accessories and lenses for both machines lol.

I collect darkroom stuff, cool old school stuff. I don't pay a lot of money, or have anything exotic, weird, sure, but nothing I would suspect people would pay a lot of money for. One great thing about the collapse of analog photography is everything I ever wanted is available cheap. Today I rebuilt the drain on an Arkay SS sink, 10 footer someone brought me because they didn't want it to be destroyed. I get calls like this now and then. I have 5 enlargers set up right now. Each has a unique purpose. I never get bored . There's always something to do, fix, adjust, and use .
Photography was never a career for me. I just love the whole thing.

I have two ----Omega D2V and D5XL. They are in very good shape as I was a one person operation. Both are in storage as I have retired from 30 years in the business in NYC. I now live upstate NY(120 miles north of the city) and the water quality ( well water) here makes it impossible to process prints. I have no use for them now and would cut a deal( meaning a good discount) with anyone who is willing to come and pick them up. PM me if you have questions as to heads etc. and a reasonable price.

1. LPL 67 diffuser with colour head. My first enlarger in 1983. Head now removed and used primarily as a copy stand.
2. Meopta Magnifax condenser. Classic enlarger picked up for $20 in about 1998 and now dedicated to paper flashing with ND and 00 filter
3. Meopta Opemus 7 condenser. Only one purchased new around year 2000. Printed my first exhibitions (35mm) on this, 2001-2004.
4. Durst Laborator 138 condenser bought in about 2004. My current every day enlarger. Needed to get bigger as I got into 4x5 and 5x7 photography. Since converted to downlight LED light source.
5. Beseler 45S diffuser. Colour head removed and built a home made LED lightbox and negative holder to print 8x10 negatives.
6. Fujimoto 450M-C diffuser colour head in 2012. Offers a diffuser option for some negatives in all formats up to 4x5. A beautifully designed enlarger bought dirt cheap although carriers are hard to come by. Lucky to find 3 carriers on OneJP auction site.
7. LPL 3301 condenser kit. Latest acquisition for $50 at a camera fair early this year. A small 35mm student special which I hope to use in future when running workshops.

I would buy more if I had room but darkroom size and storage space is now the limiting factor!
