Anyone tried the 'new' semi-gloss variant of Foma MG Classic 131 paper yet? Curious to know what you think of it and how the blacks are.

131 is a glossy surface, not semi-gloss, right?

131 used to be a glossy surface. Somewhere in 2022 Foma had to change the surface due to lack of raw materials. They decided to keep the 131 nominator, but change the corresponding descriptor from 'Glossy' to 'Semi Glossy'.

Unfortunately Foma does not mention this on their own web site, but it is mentioned by several retailers. For example: https://www.retrocamera.be/en/photo...ts-fomatone-131-mg-classic-8593346236209.html

The statement that it is, or continues to be, suitable for lith printing is debatable. Wolfgang Moersch says it does lith, but not as good as before the change.

Late to the game here but thought I'd throw this in. I just compared my 2009(purchased) glossy package against 2025 semi-glossy. You can definitely see the surface difference. I like the older glossy better. Contrast was also lower on the new paper. With Ilford filters and V54 coldlight the Foma paper at grade 3 has much lower contrast than my old Ilford Gallery #3. This was just from a print view and really needs to be checked with a step wedge. For my normal darkroom printing Ilford Warmtone is probably a better all-round choice but the Foma might match some images beautifully.
