I call it ROD (as in fishing)
IN (not out)
Al (as in Capone).

I don't worry if anyone else thinks it is 'right' or not... Working for a Geman company I have decided it is a very dangerous game to try and pronounce German words like the German's do.
Imagine you owned a BMW!
Now where's that glass of reisling I ordered? (that's REEZ-ling, not rise-ling ;-)

I've always pronounced it road-uh-nawl, and I plan to go on pronouncing it that way.

The same way I pronounce Rollei and Sinar: like a United States of American (that is, incorrectly).

...but not the way I pronounce Wein Cell (that is, correctly ).

I pronounce it like rodent with the the word all in place of the letter t.

...and the way I pronounce rodent actually sounds more like road'nt.

...so the way I pronounce Rodinal sounds like a contraction of road and all: Road'n'all. It is not totally "country", like Road-nall, because I do use three syllables. I pronounce the n as a soft, quick, passing nasal tone; not enunciated.

I did own one. I still have its remains. It was an R100RT. It only had two wheels, but it would do 100 mph.

luckily i have never had to pronounce it.
but if i do, it is like r'dn'll
no vowels and really fast.
if i need to get someone to understand it,
i will say it louder! and then louder!!
and if they still look at me blankly
i will write it out.

Some look at life and wonder 'why'. Some look at it and wonder 'why not'. And some of us have to go to work and don't have time for all that s**t.

The same way as it was pronounced in 1891: Rodinahl.

But for that proper German pronounciation one would actually have to taste it straight, or follow the connoisseurs' recommendation: mix it 1:100 with the aformentioned Riesling, both from the same vintage.

There is also the stress thing. RO-di-nal is different than ro-DI-nal or ro-di-NAL.

While we're at it, there is a question that bugs me: Why do some people keep spelling it "Rodinol"???

Patrick,

"If the ROD was to be pronounced like the rod for fishing,"

In fact it is pronounced like the rod. Somewhat like "Rod-ee-nawl", with a short burst of "ee".

Maybe close in British English, but the American 'rod' is far from Roh-dee-nahl.

I guess because most other developers are -ol as in alcohol.

My friend, Gene Fourney, used to spell his name 4Knee. I guess that was so they would at least pronounce it the way he wanted it pronounced.

I pronounce it any way it wants me to.

(It is the 800 pound gorilla of developers, after all.)
