Now that I'm considering lenses for my Galvin 6x9, I noticed that Horseman/Topcor made a whole line of lenses specifically for the VH, VH-R, etc. Since small is part of the exercise, this might make decent tiny lenses for this camera. What not clear to me is these lenses seem to have board mounted doodads for triggering the shutter. If I move the lens out of the Horseman board, that doodad is unlikely to move with it.

So the question is does the shutter have a normal cable release socket somewhere under that stuff that will be available if I remove the lens? Unfortunately the photos I've seen don't give an angle to view better.

Here are a couple photos of the shutter release from lenses on eBay:

Um, Topcor lenses on Horseman boards are in Seiko or Seikosha shutters that often lack cable release sockets. In addition, the shutters' sync contacts are wired to a PC connector on the lens board.

If flash or, sometimes, using a cable release is important, these lenses have to be reshuttered to be usable on other cameras. The alternative, which I haven't explored -- you have a Galvin, you do the legwork -- is to have an adapter that accepts small Horseman boards (80 mm square, if I'm not mistaken) put on a Galvin board. Not what I would do, but then I don't have a Galvin and our preferences are probably different.

thanks, that what I was wondering--do these have normal shutter release sockets under the custom horseman release on the board (for instance Linhof has custom quick release connectors on some of their boards, but the shutters still have the normal threads.) The Astragon 90 that came with the Galvin is also in a Seikosha SLV shutter, and that one does have a cable release socket, but I didn't know if the ones for the Horseman do or don't.

If it helps here are some shots of a 90mm and 180mm topcor I use most time. Somewhere I also have a 150mm but can't remember how it is built.
Afair i can use the 150 and 180 with a cable release, the 90mm I use without hand held on my vh-r.
I found and bought all three lenses as "Tokyo kogaku" readily mounted with the boards.
Hope that helps
ho.

Do these horseman lensboards require a specific (hard to find and expensive) cable release?

I bought a 105 that is still in the Horseman board, the end of the cable release needs to be somewhat large, at moment I cannot measure how large. The shutter trip lever is pushed by the cable release which is held place in a small tube with a set screw that holds the cable release in place. My standard cable releases are too small to held by the set screw but if I hold in place by hand the plunger will trip the shutter release. Maybe with duct tape wrapped around the end of a standard cable release the set screw will work. If not then a horseman release will be needed. As I am taking my 105 out of the horseman mount for a 2X3 speed graphic board I will need to trip it by hand.

I now have five 2x3 horseman lenses (65, 75, 105, 120, 180) all have a shutter release that can use the weird barrel attachement that horseman used, and all but one can use a normal cable release--you have to screw the tip into the bottom of the recess where the barrel attachment slides in and it works normally.
