I love the idea of a print magazine, but I think the name will be a turnoff to many. Honestly.

But do not many members here consider analogue photography more honest than digital one?

At least that is my impression from many posts

All the best, Luca!
Do you take submissions too?

Hi there - yes yes! if you follow this link: www.honestwithyou.com/submit there is all the Info's you need. Theme for the next Issue is "HUMAN", deadline for submission the 17th of June.
You can also submit other stuff, we feautere one photographer in the Blog a week and also start with issue 2 soon ( theme will be released soon!)

All the best

I love the idea of a print magazine, but I think the name will be a turnoff to many. Honestly.

Hi Wayne, Thanks for your thoughts. To be honest with you, you're the first person saying that (we have started with HONEST. half a year ago). Everybody i talked to so far from photographer to the Press to the cab driver loves the name. I do appreciate your feeling toward the name, it is good to have different opinions.
Since photography per se can only show the blinck of a second that could also be dishonest in many ways, we do feel that analogue photography is as honest as it gets ( if you look at the Logo - i feel you know what i mean). But don't let the name stop you to look into it.

All the best

Yes, that is at least what i get talking to a lot of people. And that is how i personally see it too. as Nika de Carlo said "To have an image infused onto material is the most beautiful thing to me - that I froze a time so special and can keep it forever.

a very honest statement. honesty is the feeling i get when i look at film photography. A piece of the soul going into the picture.

cheers.

Yup, quite a few say only analogue's honest!

 yes that's what i hear too. i think it is not the situation that is caught that is always honest, but the photographers feelings when taking the picture. At least that is how i personally feel.

great effort! we applaud you!!best,peter

Thank you so much Peter, very glad to hear that. We are working hard and all our hearts are in it.
Hope you are well .
All the best

If you happen to be in Vienna on the 17th of JUNE - don't miss the big Launch Party @Heuer am Karlsplatz 7pm all!!

The first 25 will get a roll of film from us (35mm from revolog) and once returned that evening a post card with the chance to win a print will be yours.
So bring your beautiful 35mm cameras!

Luca

I'm uncomfortable with the fact that the title of the magazine suggests the inverse: that digital imaging is somehow dishonest.

Exactly.

I always rejected that idea (typically brought over in the past by art historians and similar scholars) that (then analogue) photography would be honest.
Photography as such is not honest.

What attracts me in analogue photography is indicated in my username.

Thus a matter of analogue photography being more material than digital one.
But I guess some would relate this to being honest too...

Paul,
feeling uncomfortable with that title (as I do too), would you thus reject the publication as such or at least look into it biased by then?

(As indicated I guess many do not share our view, and by that make that title an apt choice.)

You've seen a couple more objections now, and for the very reasons I was afraid of. I am about as much of a non-fan of digital as they come, and I find the name repellent and snobbish. I wish you'd reconsider and name it something that can succeed because I'm 100% in support of print magazines of analog photography. A name that relates to camera equipment or analog photography is much more neutral and inviting to all. You know something like Lens Cap (not a great name but offensive to nobody)

Does it? The logo itself plays with it, beeing crossed out. Questions it in itself .
For me as i said - are analogue photographers more honest, is photography itself honest? yes and no. depending on the point of view.
Film photography has a pure and honest feel - at least in my eyes.

Exactly.

As i said above  about the logo and everything

I think you rlast sentence is a good point - i feel it is about the connection, the feel.

Good question - would you guys?

Thank you for your input, i am afraid i won't though. honest. is more than a print magazine, it is a mindset going far beyond photography itself. it supports the way i want to live and work, my friends want to live and work, and as i think many more - together and not against each other, sharing ideas and visions. The heart of the concept is this magazine, giving analogue photography a platform to breathe and be appriciated away from todays fast living (online) world.
I personally prefer to shoot on film, it is my great love and passion - but neither i nor anyone else in the team is against anything that is not film, it is just that we want to give analogue photography/the great artists out there who shoot film the space it deserves.
Honest or not? That's your decision to make - not mine.

"Crossed out"

That was a interesting hint, I did not even notice that!

(I mean, I got to know about that magazine in words, then got some links, and then missed the forest for the trees...)
