Freestyle is a pretty trusted source and Lomography the destination for all those young Holga seekers no longer lists the brand for sale in their drop down. I bought myself a 120 Pan today and have noticed a creeping scarcity.

Anyone who thinks Holgas are incapable of producing beautiful photographs should check out jbridges work in the Gallery.

Another disturbing aspect of the closure is how Holga is the "gateway drug" for many young people on their journey into film use. I've met dozens who have "moved up" the camera ladder (including large format) based entirely on their positive experience with plastic cameras. It's a shame to lose this manufacturer.

That was me, the holga was my first experience using 120 film, up to that point all I had ever used was 35mm, and that little $25 camera turned into many different medium format camera purchases.

maybe freestyle just wanted to boost their sales. :whistling:

at holgadirect, situated not far from the factory: nothing. if anyone, they should know and would certainly try to profit from a rush. I will wait for information that I can trust.

Yes, it just seems strange that no-one can point us to a quote directly from Holga. I wonder how we would react to an announcement that Harman had closed if it wasn't from Harman itself.

It is almost as if Holga's disappearance, if that is the case, is being treated as if it was one of those "fly-by-night" companies that visits your town for one day with a range of "bargain goods" then disappears without trace.

It doesn't particularly bother me as I am not a user, nor ever will be, of Holgas but it does surprise me that no-one seems to be bothered to find the source of the announcement and its authenticity

So are you saying that the Holga was a gateway drug to medium format?

You are so screwed, you have started down the path to large format. It will start with getting a 4"x5" camera just to see what it is all about. Then you will buy a 5"x7" or 8"x10" camera because your friends will tell you that they feel so good to use.

It was for me, the first time I opened the tank and looked at that wet roll of Tri-x, that was it...

as far as 4x5, I'm already there, I bought into the Kickstarter campaign for the Intrepid Camera, I'm at the stage of piecing everything together that I need to get and start shooting with it.

I think it's strange as well that there is nothing from the manufacturers of Holga. But to say that "no one seems bothered to find the source" is incorrect. I searched a lot before posting this thread, and felt that the information from Freestyle and Randy seemed legitimate enough to go on. Having looked at numerous other sites about this topic its clear that others have as well, to no avail. We do have to remember that this is a Chinese company - perhaps there is a notice somewhere in Chinese but its not something that most of us would be able to find at all. Personally, I doubt that there is even that. We may never know the real reason why this happened.

Yes I accept you made an effort. What I should really have said is that on APUG I am surprised and discomfited that no-one has been able to get a direct quote from the company itself.

As some here within the last few years seem to have named Holga as the saviour of analogue photography it is disturbing that what some heralded as the " pillar of analogue society and saviour of its future" seems to have disappeared in the way of the visiting snake oil salesman who comes with the travelling fair and then disappears with no trace.

Maybe Henning Serger who seemed to see Holga as the saviour of film can comment here or better still supply the information we all seek about Holga.

I did see this posted on the Australian Film Photographers Facebook group:

If not Henning you can ask Simon Galley...

Too late... there is already a Kickstarter campaign, started this summer. By the designer of the Holga ...

... for a digital Holga.

You know any crap digital camera or camera phone can be a potential digital Holga.

Neither smart phones nor low market DSLR are not marked up like Holgas?

How about reverse engineer a Holga and make plans so people can make them with 3D printers?

Not so sure about 3D printing.......

Now that is funny! I was laughing so hard my sides hurt! Stop it, p-l-e-a-s-e! Tears are coming out of my eyes!

That video is not about failing of 3D-printing but of a collapsing 3D-puzzle.

Needless to say I am very sad about the Holga news as well - I also have tried to get more information 'directly from the source' but wasn't successful! I am trusting Freestyle and Randy from HolgaMods and hoping that there is nothing shady going on.

To honor the Holga, I am doing a blog post in a few weeks showcasing everyone's favorite Holga photo that they took in 2015 - if you would like to submit, head over to my blog for more information! http://holgajen.blogspot.com

Wow, Bert, that's fantastic.

I just ordered a special edition one that my friend has her name on...:D

Dead Link Removed

I think I have another regular 120N laying around as well.

I ordered one from Freestyle just in case my other two decide that they want to stop working all of a sudden. And all of this Holga talk is reminding me that I need to blow the dust off mine and take them out....

You call your Friend "Holga" or "120N" and yell "plastic fantastic" when you see her?? :whistling:
