Alright, firstly sorry for my absence in this thread. I've been super super super busy. I just got back from Georgia for Thanksgiving. There was next to no service or internet wherever I went. Finally back to home where there is internet sometimes instead of never (Mississippians are smartester and more cultured than Georgians).
What I'm getting from this thread is that with a 6400 dpi scanner you can successfully scan all of the detail from film, just that focusing is the issue with the different scanners?

The only consumer scanner I know of that can achieve 6400DPI is the Flextight, which manages 6900DPI for 35mm, and only portrait orientation. I think at that point you're probably well beyond the noise floor of most film, but in certain very theoretical conditions, with an extremely high end (almost theoretical) lens and very detailed film you could maybe be picking up some information at that point. The scanner drops to 6150DPI in landscape, 3200DPI for medium format (which underperforms the Coolscan 9000), and 2040DPI for 4x5 which underperforms flatbeds like the v850 which managed ~2600DPI. There are always tradeoffs, mostly relating to the lens.

If you really want to learn about how resolution works in film, this link I posted last week is fantastic: https://www.tmax100.com/photo/pdf/film.pdf
