Hello Everyone.

I've been lurking here for a month or so, and thought I should probably introduce myself.

I'm a newbie to film and darkroom ( 2-3 Months ) and enjoy it greatly. A guy across the road saw me shooting with the DSLR and gave me an old Minolta he had sitting in the garage.

In that time I've started developing B/W film and in the last week or two printing with an enlarger I have picked up on the cheap.

It is great fun being hands on with the analog processes compared to the digital world.

Thanks.
Lee

Hi Lee,
Go and give that darling man across the road a hug! Everyone should have someone so sweet to bring back some magic into their lives
Welcome to APUG!

Thanks everyone.

Ron. It was a SRT-101, with the 58mm f/1.4 and 200mm f/3.5 lenses, plus a 2x teleconverter. The meter seems to work well and the photos come out pretty good. I just have to get used to the focus.

Lee - hello and welcome to APUG from western Massachusetts USA. An SRT-101 was my first real camera, a nice outfit... sometimes I wish I still had it.

You can proud with your camera , your neighbor is a great man and would be a good photographer or someone who knows the hardware part of this art. Minolta have always close ties with the German Leitz and Leica always supported their optical designs. If I am not wrong Leica R3 and R4 bodies manufactured by them also. You have a hardware which you dont need to look elsewhere for a long time.
Its summer at there and you can shot excellent concert hall pictures to ship pictures at harbour with your 400 mm without handshake.

Welcome to APUG from Istanbul.
I agree with Molli , bring your pictures with you and let him discuss them.

Lee,

Getting used to manual focus is a big step. Once you're used to it, you'll think that allowing a machine to decide what part of the scene to focus on is not a good idea. Autofocus is probably a good thing for sports and wildlife, but for slower-moving subjects it's not a good thing.
