I just noticed that there is an introduction forum on here :whistling:

anyway. i'm nadine, 26 yo and live in the middle of germany. i just graduated from university and am currently on the job hunt.

photography has been my hobby for a long time, now. i think i was 10 when i bought my first camera. one that was basically a plastic p&s that could not do anything but fire the shutter. i did have an idea how i wanted my photos to look like but was often disappointed that they didn't but didn't know why. there was no one around me that knew a lot about photography so the usual answer was "it's just not possible". still cameras were a popular present and i did get some nicer p&s.
only in 2007 i aquired my first slr.

i have always shot film, never went digital. only digital camera is the one in my mobile phone.

recently i entered medium format photography. i bought a pentacon six off ebay. it works nicely, no problems so far. i love the square but still have to figure out how to compose a photo in this format.

so, glad to be here. i am sure there are a lot of interesting people around.

Welcome Nadine, learning to compose in the square format is worth the effort, to use as much of the negative as possible.

Benvenuta,
this is a good place. It's nice to see that film is appreciated not only by Analog Mammuths but also by Digital Natives.

Welcome to APUG !

I heard that unemployment is a serious problem at old East Germany. If you are living at the same place with lens factories of Carl Zeiss , you can be sure there are lots of photographers around. Your camera is excellent and legendary and may be built at your home town. It is now better to join photography clubs there. I am sure You will see lots of great lenses and cameras from Soviet Times.
Photography isnt about taking hundreds of photographs. You can make less and on subjects most you like. Do you do color or bw ? Do you scan your negatives by yourself ?
Tell us about the lens camera factories ! What happened them ? Is it easy to find monster lenses there ?

Welcome to APUG !

I heard that unemployment is a serious problem at old East Germany.
well, yes. but had i studied something more reasonable (like IT, science or technology. then i might even be working for zeiss) i would be better off. but since i want to work in the HR field it is difficult everywhere because this is not the department that companies concentrate on expanding right now. :pouty:

Herzlich Willkommen! Gibt es noch Linsefabriken in Jena?
no, i don't think they make lenses for cameras here. they do produce lenses but for the industry, especially very large customized ones and special coatings, also laser technology and other things.
i actually went to the local photo club a few times but that wasn't helpful. they don't do anything content-related, i.e. composition.

Your camera is excellent and legendary and may be built at your home town. It is now better to join photography clubs there. I am sure You will see lots of great lenses and cameras from Soviet Times.
no, it was produced in dresden  as were most lenses. there or on görlitz. but the standard lens of the six indeed came from here.

i do both and scan myself. bw i also process myself. i would like to do c41 myself too one day.

hm, i don't really know a lot about that. i know that pentacon in dresden still exists and they also produce mostly digital cameras. p&s as well as video. as far as zeiss optics are concerned i fear that none of them are produced in germany any more but are just relabeled here to get the good name.

thanks to all of you!

oh, true. it is weird that photography seems to be such a guy-thing. also at photo clubs. there are very few women.
It's a shame that more women aren't photographers because they tend to be more artistic and creative in their approach, in my life I have known quite a few first class lady photographers who do wonderful work, indeed our female members on this forum are excellent photographers.
