Hi From Durban, South Africa

Hi and Happy New Year to all.

I'm a new member from Durban on the east coast of South Africa. I did a little 35mm B&W photography, developing and printing many years ago. Recently I got back into photography via the DSLR route, but am now missing the ability to make my own prints and am considering coming back to analog, probably medium format. My preferred subjects are landscapes and some portraiture.

Does anyone happen to know of any darkrooms for hire in Durban? I would need somewhere equipped for variable contrast B&W printing up to at least 8x10" from 120 negs. I know it's a long shot....

Why not set up your own darkroom? Check Gumtree or Bidorbuy, from time there are bargains to be had (I bought most of my darkroom on Bidorbuy for under R400)
I can also highly recommend buying film from Martin Zimelka, he's in CT but he'll ship across RSA.

Build your own dark room if you have the space. I have been doing it the last year and it is a constant source of frustration/joy/pride.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, and thanks Ron for the welcme "home"! Ricus thanks for the heads up about Martin Zimelka, that's good to know. My plan is to set up my own darkroom eventually, and I will keep an eye out on auction sites. I have my eye on the under-stair closet (although I haven't mentioned this to my wife yet!).
