Hello,

My name is Gregg .. and I am a PHOTOHOLIC!

Yes, It all began in FEB. I decided to buy myself a B-Day present. Nothing fancy, just a simple Canon dSLR and macro lens. Well, one lens led to another, that led to another .. then it happened .. I decided to try a manual lens .. I remember it as if just a few months a go (cause it was).. that dreary April afternoon the mailman delivered me both an M42 adapter and a Takumar 50mm 1.4 .. OMG!! -- MANUAL LENSES ARE AMAZING!!! -- That was it, I was hooked!

While I do love digital bodies, (as you all know) there is no comparison to the analog lenses. Which I now have lost count of owning, as well as number film bodies. Which is why I have joined this fine community. Hoping with a little guidance from other similarly afflicted to get a grip on this dreaded affliction.

LoL, there you have it.. still new to things but I feel like I should have started a long time ago (I've been a graphic / web geek for 15 years). Either way I'm having a lot of fun learning!

To date I have successfully processed a couple rolls of the 35mm (B/W of course). Don't really know the formula I used but it worked and that was very exciting.. ; P -- I currently have a roll loaded in a Canonet QL17 and am awaiting the arrival of my newest addition - A Mamiya Super 645!

Any pointers for a newbie jumping into medium format .. ?

THANKS!!
G ~

Hello Gregg and a warm welcome to APUG! I have a Maimya RB67 and it is great. Look up KEH for good prices.

The term is G.A.S. Gear acquisition syndrome and you have it. The bad news: there is no known cure. The good news: there is no known cure. My advice would be to try and master one format at a time but as any faithful APUG'er can attest, you will NOT heed this advice. Have fun, ask question and if you have any good jokes we really, really need them on the joke thread.

This place is all about "retox" when it comes to GAS. Not a 12-step program in sight!

Welcome to the dark side!

Actually, it is much simpler!

It is a one step program

Gregg - hello and welcome to APUG from western Massachusetts. I am sorry, but the only thing we here at APUG are gonna do is encourage you to buy more cameras!!

Welcome to APUG Gregg! You're about to join us down a very slippery slope...because you know once you start medium format, you'll have to build yourself a darkroom, and try all kinds of new processes, which will lead you to LF, which will....well, you get the idea. ;-)

I was waiting for someone to use that line!

Welcome to APUG, Gregg. You will find many fellow-GAS-sufferers here.

Advice? Shoot lots. Make notes.

G.A.S. it's all fun and games until you are trolling every flea market, tag sale, ebay, and the homes of friends and relatives looking for gear. Next thing you know you will be looking for a large format camera.

www.keh.com they take credit cards.

Sorry, I tend to be an enabler.

Welcome to Apug.
