Hi there,

Allow me to introduce myself to this great forum:
My name is Tareq, I live in Ajman city in U.A.E.
I work as a civil engineer, and since 2005 i addicted to photography more and more. My start was with digital, so since 2005 until 2009 i ended up with 9 digital cameras, but something inside me telling me: "Tareq, try FILM", so i didn't sleep until i get my hand on a film camera in MF or LF, not interested in 35mm film much, so in the middle of 2009 i bought 2 film medium format cameras, which are: Mamiya RZ67 Pro II & Hasselblad 501CM both used bodies, i bought 2 film back for both [New] and one used lens [180mm?] for that Mamiya, since that i keep reading about film and didn't shoot one roll yet about film, forgot to say that i've got Holga Pinhole 120WPC a week ago as well.
So i hope joining this website will help me in film photography [i remember i used film when i was a kid but it was for P&S Kodak or Yashica cameras].

Regards to all,
Tareq Alhamrani

Welcome to APUG, Tareq. You have some nice cameras.

Welcome to APUG!

Welcome to APUG Tareq! I don't know what film availability is like in the UAE, but get some as soon as possible and try your cameras out! You'll love the large negatives (or positives).

WOW, that was really quick responses!!!
Thank you very much!

In fact it seems all people here are going with digital, and film is limited in very few people and i have one friend who uses film told me that there is only 1 lab to develop film, maybe there is 2 or 3 , but mostly 1 lab is popular used and some other small labs around use that main lab.

Really i can't wait to shoot my first [MF] film roll, yesterday i loaded 2 film rolls in 2 bodies each, and i am waiting the best time to go out and shoot, but the question as usual/always, what to shoot now with film here after 5 years with digital and nothing much interesting around? I know with film i can get different look, but that is not enough and i don't want to give up so soon with film after few rolls and go back to digital.

Thanks for your posts/replies, i will look for your help in any way here :smile::smile:

Welcome to APUG, there are a lot of great photographers here if you are looking for information. I've learned a ton since I've been here...still have a lot to learn too.

Welcome to APUG! I have an RB67, very similar to your RZ67. Great cameras! I would love to be closer to the desert as you are; it's one of two broad types of landscape I have never photographed (the other is the Arctic). If finding a lab is difficult you could always take the next step and develop your own. Plenty of resources here if you need more information on that.

Welcome to APUG.

Just like you I'm always learning. Every so often I help!

This is a nice group of people who are willing to help.

Please send us some warm weather! We're in the midst of a snowstorm, but we're used to that!

Hello, Tareq. Ahlen wa Sahlen! I'm over here in Riyadh, where film is extremely scarce. I hope you have better resources there in Ajman; perhaps you're having to import it. You have some striking landscapes there to photograph, especially over in Oman on the Musandam Peninsula. Welcome to the world of film - the digital folks don't know what they're missing.

Tareq - hello and welcome to APUG from western Massachusetts.

Tareq,

Welcome to APUG and to giving film a try. You might consider developing the film yourself. If you shoot black and white film you will find it quite easy and satisfying to do it yourself.

Best of luck and we await your new images with film. Please post some on the web!

Regards,

You will have a lot of fun Tareq,
welcome to the forum.

Thank you very much all!!!
So funny that you want my weather and landscape and i want to go away from heat [it is cold now but almost hot for long time after] and see the greens and lakes and so, not into desert landscape much, so for you those two shots for teasing, hehehe

Welcome to APUG, Tareq, you have some great cameras to shoot with. Are you going to develop the film yourself or send to a lab?

I have one friend told me that there is a good lab that develop film very good and reasonable price as well, so i will not try to work very hard to develop film myself now, i have to focus now how to use film and at least i will scan it myself after developing, so i will let the lab to develop it for me, and later after a while i will start to develop by myself when i have more time and mood to do it.

Hi Tareq,

Very welcome to APUG. The first step is done: shooting film. The second one will come soon: developing the film by yourself. By the way, I'm a frequent traveller to your country, so if you see a chap with a Mamiya RZ67 (like yours), just say hello ;-)

Welcome to our group, Tareq. Sounds like you have a great start over there.

Hi there,

In fact i still didn't shoot film yet, waiting to use my any film camera for first time, but yes, it is just a matter of time and i will shoot a lot, but the developing part is the matter.

If you will be in Ajman and that RZ67 then if you see another one with RZ67 or Hasselblad just say Hi  :D
