Hi all. I'm not very good at introductions, and I usually don't like to draw attention to myself... but in an online forum I kind-of don't have much of a choice, huh?

My name is Alysia and I'm a New Jersey native studying in Newcastle-upon-Tyne for my Fine Art degree. Over the course of the last few months I've been taking analogue photography seriously enough to dedicate my whole practice to it. It's always something I've really enjoyed, but I had convinced myself that I was a painter and a hobbyist photographer until my tutor nearly smacked me. ...I guess I'm not much of a painter after all. Hah.

Anyway.
Currently I'm using 4x5, 35mm, and 120mm film. I'm not sure how much detail I'm supposed to go into during an introduction so I'll just leave off on that.

I'm very new to the world of analogue and I'm hoping that this forum is a place that I can learn and grow, as well as meet other film photographers (the darkrooms in uni always seem to be empty!)

Cheers!

Aye, I do love it here. It feels more like home than NJ does, hah.
Kind thanks for the warm welcome.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

.
Welcome Home Alysia !

I've visited New Jersey, and gotten lost for several hours, a few times ...

Ron
.

I think it's something of a rite of passage... for such a small state it's incredibly easy to become hopelessly lost. My favourite was Newark at 2AM.

Welcome.

Remember that whilst you are in the UK, it's 5x4!!!

Steve.

Y'know, I say 5x4, but doing research online (especially when I was looking for colour) I noticed it's always written 4x5. I'm glad there's a reason and that I'm not nuts. I'll keep that in mind for the future. ;D

Hello and welcome from the Heart of England,
Hows the 5x4 going? Just got into it myself :S

Paul

I haven't actually used a proper camera with it (I built a pin-hole), but I really enjoy the results. It's what I've been shooting most often with.

Are you using a large format camera? I watched an introduction for a Walker Titan 5x4 and it seems entirely out of my league. Hah.

But why stop at 5x4 - Go straight to 10x8 and enjoy real big negs (Shaggysk8 is already on the slippery slope  ). Plenty to see and shoot up north, so enjoy yourself regardless of which format you use.
