Hi everyone,

I am Nils, a uni student from Munich but am currently living in Osaka for an exchange year. That will unfortunately soon end though and I will return to Munich.

I found this forum last weekend after I bought a broken Canon T90 in one of the many used camera stores here in Japan. A very nice member of the community showed me basically all there is to do with the camera and offered help which got me pretty far even though it is still not running right now.

I always loved taking photos and tried my absolut best to make them look good but I was struggling with only having my different phones as a camera. Because I love just about any old technology (especially old cars) I finally decided to pick up my very first SLR/film camera in Summer 2023: a used Canon AE-1 Program. I had used my fathers DSLR a few times in my life before but never really looked into all the settings of how to manually take photos. Just 2 weeks later he gave me his old Canon 650D because he was not really using it anymore and since then these two have been my main cameras and I just can't stop shooting! The last two years this has escalated into my #1 hobby and I'm looking into getting a modern digital and start a small business with the hope of becoming a self employed photographer after finishing my university degree. But that is just a dream, maybe things will turn out different haha

Anyways, happy to be here and connect with likeminded people!

Hi Nils. Welcome to Photrio. And do dream on, nothing wrong with that! Whether or not you reach your dreamed destination doesn't matter that much. It's the ride that makes it all worthwhile.

Osaka is an interesting place, if a bit intimidating due to its size. There are many local attractions reachable by commuter train and many more regional destinations within an hour via the regular rail network. The old U-bahn rolling stock in Berlin was actually made in Osaka!

I'll welcome you again!

Welcome! I was just in Osaka. I'm down in Fukuoka until mid June. Lived here for many years once upon a time. Considering splitting my time here and in Canada, since I've officially retired.

Welcome! Greetings from Ukraine! I will be glad to see your pictures

Thanks everyone!

Ah great! I love it here and will dearly miss my time here when its time to leave in 3 months. I have no plans of moving here permanently but if its possible in some way i'd love to stay here for a couple more years at some point.

Welcome to Photrio!

The Canon T90 is a great camera to get started with, good exposure metering, full featured, and access to a selection of very high quality lenses for not much money.

Try to stock up on Fuji film before you leave Japan!

Welcome!
