Hi, all!

I found this site a couple of days ago and was completely blown away by the information on film and film cameras. And so active, too. It looks like I've got a lot of reading to do, and much to learn, and many questions to ask, but I don't want to be a nuisance, because I'm pretty much starting from scratch!

I had a Nikon Coolpix that I just loved, but I lost it last year, so I've been using this old Nikon FE that a friend gave me, and I'm starting to figure it all out.

A guy at a camera store downtown showed me how to load XP2 and then they developed my first couple of rolls, and I was totally hooked.

So that's my story so far  and looking forward to learning and sharing soon (I'll get scans next time!)

Welcome. Just look out for the loony toons on the deleted thread.

Hello moops from the Texas Gulf Coast I just jumped in yesterday myself. I had lurked here for some time and I think we have made a good choice. I just bought some XP2, but the weather is so hot I have not loaded my camera yet.

Welcome moops. The FE was the first camera that I ever used. I was hooked on photography from the first time I pressed the shutter. That was 1980. The camera still works great.

Happy shooting.

Welcome to APUG moops! The FE was the first SLR I ever bought and I'm still using it now -- it's a great camera.

Losing the coolpix is a blessing in disguise ! Welome to world of real photography

Hi moops, My first roll was XP2 too, great film and got me addicted to film too.

FE? I've got 3...

Now that you're hooked, make arrangements to check out "The Big One" next month. Worth the trip to visit "The Film Guy" for short-dated film, usually a buck a roll. You'll be sorry you went. Don't blame me.

Thanks, everyone!

Wow, seems like lots of people started with my camera! I'll admit I played with it for weeks, just viewing, clicking the shutter and winding before deciding to get out there putting actual film in it. It felt so cool, but kind of Annie Hall retro-romantic at the same time. When I picked up my first prints, I thought they looked so artsy. Not at all like my coolpix.

Now I really want to look at other people's gallery pictures, but I only see thumbnails, so next payday I'll upgrade so I can study.

Woohoo!

moops - hello and welcome to APUG! :D

Thank you, CGW, that site is so major. I'm beginning to see how much I now know I didn't know. Today I've learned about the depth of field preview lever and it has totally put a new spin on everything!

I'm so glad I found APUG. Thanks everyone!

Welcome aboard! If it hasn't already been mentioned be sure to check out the camera fair in Toronto on October 17th. You can most likely pick up a bunch of cheap film and possibly some other trinkets should you desire them.

Best of luck and be sure to share some images when you get a chance!

Welcome to APUG from a fellow Ontarian, Moops. There are a lot of film shooters in the GTA, and some excellent resorces available as well. While you are watching your family fortune disappear, (you didn't think this would make you rich, did you?) get out and meet some of your local APUGgers. Regardless of what stage you are at, you will find folks in this community who can offer guidance, support and companionship when you start to think you are the last film shooter in town. You just made 44000+ friends.

"You just made 44000+ friends."

Yea! And I will definitely see if I can go to the camera show next month. It's far out for me, so I will have to call on a former euphemism for a ride
