Hi Folks,
Im 18 and have been 'in to' photography for about 4 or 5 years now.
I started with a digital compact, and learnt a lot by reading magazines and playing around with a fuji bridge digi cam. I took an AS level in photography a year early at school and completed the A level a couple of years later. It never crossed my mind that you could actually produce good photographs with a film camera, but after using the darkroom at college I was hooked. Besides from photography I do a lot of metal/jewellery work, printmaking and drawing etc, and so value craftmanship very highly, which is why I love analogue photography, you can't beat the hands on process!
Most of my photographs are of the landscape genre, and Ive done quite a bit of experimentation with lith printing. Ive also built and used a 120 roll film pinhole with mechanical shutter.
I use my Dad's old Om10 alongside a battered bronica sq-a from ebay. Also I have managed to convince my parents to let me convert the bathroom into a 'temporary' darkroom, and its almost done (I won an lpl c6700 off ebay for a tenner!), I should be moving in next week.
Anyway I didn't mean to write an essay, but hey ho.
This is a great site by the way, I've learnt a lot already.

Alex

Alex - hello and welcome to APUG from western New England.

Hi Alex, from Norfolk; and welcome to the wide world of film photography. Your story doesn't seem like an essay - rather it's interesting to see how people come to discover creative processes, so thanks for sharing.

Hello Alex, welcome to APUG. There are a few people here that are into lith printing.

Jeff

Hi Alex, and welcome from Suffolk. You sound very enthusiastic and as if you're learning a lot so I'll bet your photography is improving fast and that you'll get a lot out of Apug. This is a great source of information and very friendly too, so I hope you'll enjoy it. Printmaking is something I've experimented with too - I've done a bit of photo-lithography and photo-etching but I reckon I still have a huge amount to learn before I produce good prints! (I'm a member of Gainsborough House Printmakers in Sudbury, I guess you'll already be aware of the Curwen Print Study Centre which is nearer you.) Enjoy your experimentation!

Ann

Welcome from a fellow Cambridge resident, you will find this site a great resource for anything and everything related to analogue photography, if you are interested in hybrid photography you should visit the sister site of apug i.e www.hybridphoto.com . Enjoy!

Hi Alex, another welcome from nearby Cambridge.

Thanks for the friendly welcome, it's good to see some local people on here.
Ann M: yes Ive been on a two day course at the Curwen, it's a fantastic place.
