Well, on the other hand, if Ferrania did contract to Inoviscoat for a run or two, (even if it's not the "true" Ferrania formula), there could be an immediate revenue stream to fund the completion of their own facilities.

Plus they can start the finishing, packaging, distribution, sales and marketing operations which don't depend on coolers or steamers.

If I were in their shoes, I would go this route. Call the contracted film, "Limited Reserve" or something to indicate that it is a short lived release.

Get some money rolling in the door...

Certainly, but i'm sure there's a generic off-the-shelf formula that the contractor could supply. Point being to get something decent on the street.

Either way its going to pay off for Ferrania in the long term by getting all the hard yards completed and having a fully self contained facility where they can produce film.

I would guess that everything they learn about getting the modified Coater up and running with "Scotch Chrome" would be valuable knowledge when the time comes to get the "gap filler" products out of mothballs. A 400D and perhaps a 640T. to cover off the stuff that fuji has been abandoning, and a 40T for all the super 8 cameras with one trick pony light meters. (and 8 and 16mm cameras in General with the comon #85 filter giving a quite usable ASA 25 out in the wilds when your fixed shutter speed is a 60th of a second.

And then I woke up.

I'll settle for a 400D to replace Provia 400X, and a 100D for the inevitable day Provia 100F goes away. If it's a bit more like Astia or E100G that's a bonus.

If they manufacture 640T let's make sure they do it in 120 format as well -- where the grain won't be a problem anymore, and the ultra fast speed would be really welcome.

Agreed. A 640T + 85 filter only drops the EI to 400. A 400 + 80A drops the EI to 100. However, there was some talk of a daylight balanced 800/3200P, and if that were available it just might be more versatile than a 640T. But either way, I'm glad these guys have some skin in the game, even if they're behind schedule. Sounds like once they get the big chiller though, they're probably good to go on the 100D.

I movie practice T film is common, and a lot of "available darkness" situations are still (and for years to come) be lit with practical (Ie existing fixtures located and working in the location) fixtures that tend to Tungsten colouration even if they are actually populated by LED or Florescent sources.

As has been pointed out offering a the 640 as a T version would mean that it could be used as a 400D with a simple 85 or 85A filter that is always available to movie shooters and is inexpensive for Still Shooters. Having the highest speed film as a T balance is a bit of a tradition, some with beards as white as mine may remember Anscochrome 500T

In my city I find lots of night situations that call for tungsten balance. And halogen (incandescent) lighting is very popular at home interiors here.

Ferranni will only be reengineering initially, lots of people could live with a 650 daylight, we never see the strange yellow ball in the sky here, just low dark grey cloud, and wet pavements.

Super but a T film needs a fast blue layer if they did not have one an aeon ago the chances of one now are smaller?
So can anyone recall? I can't recall 2004...

But probably mostly for black and white.

None the less much low available light is tungsten or at least closer to tungsten than to daylight in color temperature.

Yes, the only ISO 640 color film made by 3M/Ferrania was the 640T tungsten slide film.
I'm eager to have them manufacture it again. They do have the formulas and the rights to use the formula, and the factory, so it's not impossible. On the other hand, it is not as easy as "just follow the recipe"; they will have to re-engineer it for the available chemicals, re-scaled process, etc.

Perhaps there will be a (minor) update on their status by the beginning of September. Usually August is a holiday month and even if not, things tend to go slower.

As of the possibility of a 640T... Let's see in the mid future. If Ferrania can do quite small batches, and once they have some inertia, they could do small runs of this kind of films.
When I got into photography (2008), it was just Fujichrome 64T, at least the one I saw around. But for ciné people (and stills) it can be interesting to have a 640T-400D(Filtered) film.
