In my own professional career, I've never said "I told you so" to anyone, but I have seen businesses fail despite the owners working themselves into the ground to try to make a success. But sometimes the demand for the particular products or services just isn't enough to support the business.....I recall a Director of a major UK public company once saying to me that "wanting to do something" isn't a good reason, on its own, to try to start a profitable business or introduce new products. There has to be some unique selling point, or something that the business can produce or do better, more efficiently, or more economically than the existing players. As you so rightly say, no one is forced to buy your products, or, for that matter, almost any product on the market, photographic or otherwise. I've no hidden agenda to plug, just saying.....

Having been glued to my office chair 16 hours per day for the past 33 days in a row, with no weekends or significant breaks, I can only say that my skin has become quite thick regarding such things.
But Dave, don't you know that what you are trying to do is simple and straightforward ?
Best of luck and well done (so far), from a lifelong Kodak user and supporter.

Fail? Jesus F'cking Christ...fail? A two day delay in opening up the online store and you are ready to label this a failure. Good god.....overreact much?

They'll get there at some point but the countdown clock was stupid and I should have taken bets that there would be no way it would be reached.

their spokesman is american though...maybe an italian would have been a better liar!

Oh, I'm a liar now! That's precious.

As I've said again and again, we are sharing our process as close to real-time as we can. We're clearly showing our company being built brick by brick, so to speak. We chose this path purposely, and the result has been overwhelmingly positive.

Yes, this opens us up to being wrong - but nothing is stated without lengthy consideration, and nothing is a lie when we say it. But it seems that some of you refuse to understand the terms "fluid situation" and "transparency" that I have repeated again and again.

As you say, our developer was loathe to make that call, and I was certainly not happy to be on the receiving end. But at the end of the day, we will have an extremely powerful website that we won't need to rebuild over and over and move from platform to platform - and this, while quite unsexy to talk about, is of critical importance and worth any short-term accusations of lying or unprofessionalism.

I am watching all of this with terrific interest and continually hope for your success. I salute your commitment.

Your communication with us has been amazing and I for one will buy your film based on that fact alone.

I do hope, as you say, that your skin is thick. Through your communication they somehow believe they know all, but they understand nothing.

Thank you for what you are trying to accomplish.

But, but... what will you have to complain about if you don't try the film? C'mon... you know you wanna!

I shoot ducks, but I know when the season opens and closes.
Well said.
We're at a point where referring to "fluidity" and "alpha stage" is no longer an adequate excuse for sloppiness. If anything, the fact that it's an alpha product being launched, makes it even more important for them to appear trustworthy. They are at a very vulnerable stage, where they still have to build confidence and loyalty among consumers. It's not just a little fun project being driven by a small group of enthusiasts. To be taken seriously by a bigger potential market than this forum, they need to show that they themselves take what they do seriously. Not acknowledging that, and dismissing the concerns expressed here, only makes matters worse. By accusing those concerned supporters here of a lack of understanding, they are sending out a very bad signal to those who are looking for signs of how Film Ferrania will conduct themselves as a business.

BUT......is it really good enough to say "some things messed up on the kickstarter emails"....."messed up" as a excuse doesn't work in the real business world.

Its beyond their control if Kickstarter messed up on the email updates is it not?

Why blame Ferrania for this?

This is no different than the delay with the web developers that Ferrania contracted to put the store online.

How of this is ANY of Ferrania's fault?

Give them a break, we have all waited this long and were not even expecting P30 as a bonus product on the market before the Colour film is available.
48 hours, whoop de do!

The negativity on this thread is disgraceful!

No-one is trying to grind them down. Far from it. I'm sure everyone here wants them to succeed and wishes them the very best. Which is precisely why we are concerned whenever they shoot themselves in the foot. It's not about us, it's about them.

If you hold such discussions in a private chat room or whatever, then more power to you and anyone engaging in this discussion, but that's not what happens here. People working for, or on behalf of Ferrania are publicly called all kinds of things, for mishaps, which are mostly outside their control.

Please tell me how this is not "trying to grind them down".

Ladies and gentlemen, and this is why PE wasn't excited about the "chained to barn and make kodachrome" idea.

Shows how complex and multilayered film manufacturing is.
