Yes thats correct.

I expect they will be having to test the coater with a few runs etc.
They said they will be doing this with just the gelatin with no chemistry added to make sure its coating well and drying properly etc.

I would imagine most of this has been put past them, so i look forward to their next updates!

There is not only Kickstarter money in this endeavour. There is also bank money, other sources of financing.
Money was spent, capital was invested. The die is cast.
Unforeseen difficulties certainly outnumber foreseen ones when one tries something like people at Ferrania are doing.
Maybe they will start the first coating soon, maybe they are crunching some more problem.

What matters to me is the certainty that they are daily working toward the goal. The certainty is given by the fact that some other investors invested money in this enterprise and they certainly wanted to see convincing documents and reasonings.

Maybe there is some new unforeseen problem and they don't want to emit a press release until the situation is clarified and the delay estimated.

The spokesman who has been posting here is in the States and so should have time to make general announcements. It really doesnt take very much time to put out a post anyway.

Yes, and as complicated as it is, how many times will they have to try before they get a product of commercial quality?

Everyone understands that. All we're asking for is an update. We were told that we were weeks away from progress and that was a month or more ago.

Being familiar with troubleshooting first run manufacturing they are probably doing OK. Find a small issue in a complex process performed by a even more complex piece of equipment is more difficult than you'd think.

Yes but what we are saying is that silence is a great morale killer for us waiting. A small update of a couple lines can do wonders for this.

They have been months without contact before in the past, i would not be too worried, but yes, im looking forward to their next update!

Well, all they have really talked about is the coating equipment but little about chemical supply and mixing facilities. I wonder if they left them to last and have run into a small delay. OTOH, they may have had a great coating run, are testing it fully and are getting ready to "lay it on us"!

So many many possibilities!

The chemistry is the only barrier I can personally see, because they are working with old stock that needs purifying and they may have run short.

Based on actual experience, I can see quite a few more than stated.

Last year, i can count well more than a month between updates, especially round the time of the asbestos removal etc.

PE, I'm curious, how many rolls came out per day when Kodak was coating 24/7?
And to anyone, how does the ilford factory works? Is it just running all day? It must produce tons of film.

Echoes, it is impossible to give a number to this. Rolls of 35 mm, 120, 220, sheet film, B&W or color? What? All I can say is how fast and how wide.

Don't forget that these guys are experienced and qualified, and also worked for the old company. They're not newbies starting from scratch. They know what they're doing.

ILFORD switch back and forth between producing film and producing paper on the same machines from what I understand.

This way they can produce both in a smaller space and don't leave the machine sitting idle when film purchase numbers are low etc.

That said, color is a different animal.

FILMferrania's hope is to break into the movie industry film market first and foremost because that's where the money is for color film.

They would make a great addition to simply only having Kodak as the only color supplier, having a second "look" as an option, etc.

Still film color market is TINY, especially in E6, but even in C-41.

They've basically said that we won't see any film this year, possibly next year. But that the financial support from the government etc is stable and there. And that because they didn't do their "mini run" they actually ended up in a better position for the real deal. Which is part of the way their government business system seems to work, something we may not be familiar with in the steps of how businesses make their steps in that country.

So essentially, there may be nothing to "report" and we just have to wait and see.

Just like with film, we have to be more patient and the process is slower. So it's apropos.

Kodak used separate facilities for film and paper. Even the coating machine design was different for each. They were optimized for the product.

All facilities were hard pressed to match demand. That is why there were so many machines and they ran so fast.
