Hi,

I just got an Arca-Swiss polaroid back for my 500 CM. It seems like the shutter gets stuck when the polaroid back is attached.
Normal operation goes like this:
-Back shutter opens
-Lens shutter opens
-Lens shutter closes
-Back shutter closes
With the polaroid back:
-Back shutter opens
---- I have to detach the back and lift it 1mm from the camera
-Lens shutter opens...etc.

Any idea?

Thanks

There is a small lever/pin that extends from the body into a recess in the back to keep it from firing if a dark side is in place.
It's also the mechanism that prevents double exposures. There may be an obstruction in the back that interferes with the lever.
If the camera operates normally with no back, and with regular film backs, this is what I would check first.

Yes, it is indeed interfering with the lever, it allows the lever to extend but not all the way, it seems like the film is in the way. The hole is on the lower right corner of the picture I attached.

Look for the lever pin described in the previous two posts.

The above is not quite correct. The very first thing that has to occur with any SLR employing a lens shutter, is that the shutter has to shut. Otherwise, how are you composing and focusing your image? The lens shutter subsequently opens to commence the exposure after the reflex mirror and capping plate(s) have retracted.

I just received an Arca Swiss back, my first polaroid back, and having the same problem with my 501CM. Did you happen to find a solution? It seems like the film would block that slot in all manufacturers polaroid backs so confused why the Arca Swiss is not working and others apparently are. Thanks

Sorry for the late reply. No solution yet, I'll post it here if I find a solution. Let me know if you got it working.
