hi, are people still interested in spare 2000 series bodies?

i have:

1) a 2000fcw that some gears inside the body are broken.

2) a 2000fc that does not operate well, and mostly will not expose the film. it's shutter doesn't open at the right time, and/or for the right amount of time.

3) a 2000fcw that seems to work. i do remember on some photos, there was underexposure on the right side of the frame, almost like something was in the foreground, but there wasn't. the mirror padding is completely gone.

i've been using a 203fe for the last year or so, and although i like the simplicity of the 2000 series, i like that the 203fe works.

i was keeping the working 2000fcw as a backup, i would use it in a bind, but also feel like it's a waste to have it sitting there. and i’d be sketched that it even works well after sitting for so long, it would be the worst to have something fail on a main camera, and then use a backup and find out later that something doesn't work...

also, as far as i've researched 1 yr ago, no repair place will combine any of the bodies into a working one...

Hi Allen,

Let me say first, that as a fellow skate photographer, I greatly admire your work both behind the camera, and in publication of 43 magazine.

I shoot with a 500 c/m kit regularly, but have always been intrigued by the focal plane bodies - primarily due to the availability of what seems to be incredible glass such as the 110 f2 and the 50 f2.8. Actually, I don't know if you follow trends in cinematography, but Arri recently announced a new large format digital system (Alexa65) which will use a sensor equivalent to 5 perf 70mm film (54.12cm x 25.58cm gate) , and I expect that to slowly drive the prices of these old hassy lenses as they can be converted to the new "X-PL" mount.

It seems that none of these bodies are in fully usable condition, so if I may ask, what is it exactly that you are looking for with this post?

Cheers,

Dan Muchnik

hey,
thanks,
just to see what people have to say, see if anyone has a use for em, or is able to put em together into a working body, or suggestions for what to do with em since i'm cleaning out my apt and don't have space for clutter.

one person private messaged asking if i'd sell em to him so he can combine em, so now i'm thinking if i would do that, and for how much.

i don't follow movie cameras, but i hope they don't affect hasselblad lenses.

thanks,

I'm the one who asked what allenying wanted for them on a PM. As parts, the bodies have 2 things that are valuable, the titanium shutter curtains (it they are intact and clean) and the shutter release electro-magnets. But the labour extracting and reusing those are more than a working used body. But more interesting to me is combining parts to get a working body - again the labour is worth more than a used body, but I like working on these things - it's a hobby/passion, so to me the labour is free. But as with most of these things, it may take a few years to collect enough parts to make a working body. And I don't have all the jigs/calibration tools (yet) so depending on what need to be done (and what I break) any of these project can take some time.

Not many people work on 200/2000 series bodies, so it's something I find interesting. And few people really like using them, but I like them better than the 500 series.

I've seen a few F/FE lenses converted to a PL mount (I think there was a Hasselblad to PL adapter), but my feeling is that these lenses were more novelties than workhorses in cine.

there are also things i like about the 2000 series bodies more than the 203fe, like not having all the buttons on the side is nice, and how much less expensive they are. if i could have 2000 bodies that were in perfect working order, and readily reparable, i would probably stick with them. can you do it user19? if you guys figure it out, you can probably help out a bunch of others and make some money repairing others'.

the built in meter of the 203fe is occasionally handy, but i didn't think i needed it until i had it.

Hey! One more skate photographer here! Currently retired (shooting only as a hobby), I used to work for 100% Skate magazine here in Brazil.

And I must confess I use a Hasselblad 500C/M!

Nothing can stop us, medium format skate photographers!

hey, sweet.

i wouldn't normally think this about older manual cameras, but do you guys think the 2000 series is just getting too old, and that something like the curtain might be too fragile? because even if i have a good working model, it would still be a backup, which means it would sit in the closet for a couple years until i needed a backup. then after sitting for so long, could you even trust it still?

Allen,

Well... I was never fond of the 200 and 2000 series. Never tried to use one, tough -- in fact, I've never seen one in person!

I don't believe anything can get "too old", but every mechanical device will deteriorate if not used for a long time.

Some shoots every month or two will stop the rust from building up... You don't even have to run film through it, but I would, just for kicks.

Cheers,
Flavio
