Print out paper, no darkroom just sunlight, huge negatives and fixer. Sublime! Oh and gold chloride to tone the print.

Yes! This would make very nice solargraphs!

This thread was locked just as something relevant was posted. The Harman team are gonna be in California during the reveal date (Dec. 1-2) and are participating in photowalks.

Given this guest list I think betting on a new color film would be a safe way to win some money.

I have watched videos from most of those youtubers and they all:
  • Mostly shoot color
  • Make a fuzz about “trying b&w” or “committing to b&w for x time”
  • Don’t (as far as I know) develop their own film
  • They do however shoot different formats
If Harman were to announce a b&w film there are other social media profiles that do that. If they were to present chemicals or dark room equipment there are, again, others that do that.

My money is on color film. Unless of course the marketing people at Harman are far more devious than I give them credit for.

I had too much time on my hands this morning and all this speculation helped me imagine this. 🤓

Interesting find!

Just been doing a bit of browsing and looking at the Filmotec website, noticed they had a jobs page and they are/were after a chemist. Look at the job spec and location!!

Ilford/Harman would have chemists and engineers well versed in black & white and would hire there own. There is no other film manufacturer in the UK... Interesting!

• Graduate chemist, graduate engineer, Master/Bachelor of Science in chemistry, process engineering or similar
• Desirable knowledge of photography, photochemistry
• Professional and management experience desirable
• Experience with coatings, surface chemistry/physics
• Knowledge of analytics (UV/Vis- spectometry, viscometry, silver determination)
• Ability to work in IR and red light
• Willingness to travel (production in Great Britain, Germany, etc.)
• Good knowledge of English

*EDIT* The date for this appointment is 2022. So either the post was filled a while ago and things have been advancing over and they have't taken to vacancy down or, they are still looking for someone?

If you have any more spare time, could you convert that into a fixed focus cardboard camera that one uses and mails back for processing?

Perfect for a photo walk, or a wedding reception or a party.

That way Harman can meet a need, demonstrate bringing something back to life, and they can fill it with whatever film they choose… doesn’t even need to be made by them.

Now there's an instagram post with a film-cassette silhouette. So it's not going to be a pogo-stick monopod after all...

The new post does rather suggest it's a film. Though it could be an aerial view of a printer.

Regarding the chemist ad, I am sure they periodically need to hire expert chemists....but it's interesting nonetheless. Speculation....in 2022 did they need to replace someone who left, or did they bolster the research team? "Production in Great Britain, Germany etc". That is a bit puzzling, n'est pas? I don't see anything in the person specification that shouts "colour film expert needed" though.

So it's film. How does the Phoenix then fit into the picture?
