Exactly It's no coincidence either that most of IlfordPhoto's online magazine centres around stories and new photographers from the U.S.

Im still a bit curious why the release event is focused on their US B&W lab rather than their exclusive distributor, Roberts.

it's cool, it's california, it has loads and loads of online activity and engagement (30x roberts' followers on instagram alone), it publishes loads of stuff (informative and not) and not just some promotions, it can quickly process some film, it's focused exclusively on analog photography.

On Friday, December 1 at 11:00 AM? Sitting in front of this screen, getting ready to eat lunch. The last time I went anywhere close to the Pacific in San Clemente was 1983. I stood atop the bluffs watching extraordinarily expensive, extremely ugly houses on the beach being washed away by a massive storm. The same storm that destroyed the pier. What participants will see is one that was built afterward. Save your effort, Brian.

PS My 45 years of living in California have validated what Ansel Adams said, namely, there's nothing of photographic interest south of San Luis Obispo.

- Someone is shooting something.
That is always a camera or film. Unless we are still in the hunting season.

- It’s something that can/will fit in a 135 can.

- It’s something that would not be allowed or fit under the Ilford banner.

- The B&W products I can think of that Ilford doesn’t already have covered in their program is:

- Higher speed, higher quality film. Say 3200 or higher at the quality of HP5. Something that would probably take more research to do, than a C-41 film bottom up.​
- Better IR film. IR film with a green to red notch and better extension.​
- Explicitly reversal film.​

- They have invested in RnD, new machines, and have hired highly and specially qualified personnel.

It can only be C-41 or E6 film.

E6 would be simpler, and probably fit with their expertise better. But they are up against heavy competition. But if they could present a cheaper equally good product. They would have a shot.

C-41 is probably the better bet. It’s a hungry market. And if they can present a film in the 100 to 400 speed range that is competitively priced and is of reasonable quality they should have a really good shot.

How much of a presence does the retail arm of Roberts have in the film and darkroom supply market?
I'm more aware of their used camera offerings.
Is the distribution company even called Roberts - I know it is related to Roberts?

Those are coated wooden photo panels used with a colour ink printer - they have just re-used the name of the old product.

Retail sale of film?; very little that I’m aware of.

Supply… Quoting your post earlier in thread (and seems you’ve said it before but I’m not keeping score):

The USA is currently Harman's largest market for its products, including Ilford black and white products, and its relationship with the division of Roberts Cameras that has exclusive distribution rights for Harman products in the USA is probably Harman's most important business relationship.

Apparently either The Darkroom / Harman Lab USA has a more desirable position for this kind of marketing hype. It’s all good. I’m just trying to understand without having to decipher vague comments. My mistake, though, for asking a hypothetical question that I should have known someone would try to answer. It’s all good.

What I was trying to indicate is that it makes more sense for events like this to happen around a entity with a substantial presence in the retail and/or amateur lab world than than an entity whose presence is really only known at the wholesale level.

I guess it doesn't hurt that the set of 'influencers' invited to the event are all on the west coast - all but one is based in California (or perhaps that's why they were invited).

I would suspect that there will be plenty of properly exposed, developed and scanned images before the photo walk. The Darkroom is a perfect partner. I hope the weather is good.
Some of these same folks were treated to a visit to KEH recently, there's YouTube videos.

Young and hip.

They should have chosen the east coast for the reveal. Philadelphia would be nice. I saw all these on my ride today. See what you're missing Harman???

The IlfoChrome Plaques are for dye sublimation printer and a heat press. If printed correctly, they can produce very vibrant colours.

It is basically the same process for printing images onto mugs, cushions, clocks etc.. The type of photo gifts seen in digital photoshops or online retail photo sites.

I would prefer Australia for such announcements, their time zone shaves 20 hours off the wait time.

I would prefer the "announce on Sunday, ship on Monday" type of announcement. Shaves about 1000 hours of wait time.

Yes, there will be all the film that was given to content creators/influencers a few weeks ago. Harman stated the purpose was to give them time to use "the product" and create content with it.

I expect all that to drop on 1st December. And by the end of that day, no doubt we'll see some material from the photo walk. But I'd expect most to take a few days....because creating a decent video - even a short one - isn't a work of 10 minutes.
