I only discovered this site a few weeks ago and have been lurking, reading the threads since.
I am a keen amateur that seems to be constantly frustrated by digital images - they just don't 'do it' for me, there's no wow! factor. I've tried a couple of digital SLRs and I just don't get on with them. A couple of months ago I had no choice but to take my F100 away with me on honeymoon along with (my wife of course) some rolls of Provia 100F. Got the films back and wow! That was what I had been missing.
My wife is a dedicated digital photographer and cannot understand why I want to use film "it's outdated and expensive" she says. However, for me I want to concentrate on the best image I can obtain with my finite roll of film and not fire away hoping to get one or two good pictures on a data card.
I feel more connected with film. I think more with film.
Plus, of course there is the anticipation of waiting for the films to be developed.
It's back to France shortly. The F100 is coming along, plus the Provia (and the wife of course).

Welcome to APUG! I too, like film better than digital but that is I how I feel. I don't think film is outdate or expensive.

Welcome to the forum (from the other side of the Estuary!).

You are right about the anticipation... this can be made even more esquisite by developing your own film...

Echo the welcome (from a bit further up the A12).

Is film any more expensive than digital... First off, how much for a digital body, then there is the software, a computer, printer, inks, upgrades - A conservative estimate (for dSLR), around £2K, then there is the lenses and all the must-have gadgets...

No one uses film any more, so all the gear is being thrown out. Using fleabay, you could put a 35mm kit plus darkroom together for less than £200. A roll of film for a couple of quid, developing works out at less than 50p (assuming B&W), and printing costs would be comparable to digital.

For long term storage, you can bung your negs & CDs (or memory sticks) in a shoebox and keep them in the bottom of the wardrobe for the next forty years. When you want to embarrass your children in front of the grandchildren, which archived images will still be usable ?

Welcome from a few miles west of you (and a little bit south).

Steve.

Welcome from Svendborg, the Garden of Denmark ! Hope you'll be as inspired by all the information you'll find here as I am!

Hello Andy,I fill the same way about film, Mike from Very HOT, sunny, Southern California.

Round my part of England (when home) they still have Ducking Stools for women like your wife  And up north & the colonies they'd burn her at the stake, send her on a trip to Salem :D

The French must have a fiendish method of dealing with heretics . . . . . . . Delphine is the acknowledged the expert.

Welcome to APUG BTW.
