Regardless of how the money is saved (CD/stocks/bonds/mattress_in_the_back_room), I still say that now isn't the time to buy film stuff. It will keep going down and down in price until it hits a bottom. By arbitrage definition, it will probably meet the price of scrap metal AT the bottom when digital gets too enticing for people.

Even the Hasselblad prices have been going up recently.

I disagree. For instance, prices for some of the higher end Olympus OM gear is slowly going UP. Digital guys are using the lenses on their Cannons.

Zuiko 100 mm f2.0 = $1000.
Zuiko 24mm f3.5 Shift = $2500+.
Zuiko 180mm f 2.0 = $3500+.
Zuiko 250mm f2.0 was $4500 and I cannot even find one for sale now.

Agreed, prices on some film items have been showing a steady history of increase. I can make far more money on buying and selling equipment wisely than any typical $1500 investment can produce in three years, especially things like ridiculous CD's returns. This is definitely a buyers market. Just buy with smarts. If you spend a grand on equipment or supplies, put 10-20% of that spent amount into savings, do this all the time and you will be just fine and still be having fun.

In times like these, I wish that I was born independently wealthy instead of being so credibility handsome.

My advice would be save the money until there's something you need, not want.

If this advice was followed by all of us then most would have to sell our gear. No one "needs" photo gear unless it's their main money malker.

Unless they are a camera collector. Most photographers are not camera collectors. Most camera collectors are not photographers.

I have the solution to your problem: send me your money and I will choose for you! That way, it can be a big surprize to you ( and a boone to me).

I'm someone that is INCREDIBLY handsome too. I have G.A.S. too.
All jokes apart; I believe that after paying the bills; money is to spend. Buy yourself a Mamiya M645 and a Nikon FE (or a Yashica Lynx 14 e IC) and a couple of lenses for each one ( not the Lynx). Shoot hundreds of rolls and find out what you REALLY like and, in the process, learn some photography. You'll have a BLAST and be HAPPY:

IMO, forget all that camera stuff and take your darkroom to the next level.

P.S. What are you asking, Brad? Any case, or other accessories in the kit?

Just an update.. I haven't made any big purchases yet.

So far The best advice ive heard was by Mark Fisher: "A high quality tripod and head is really important and a pleasure to use."
I realized that I am severely lacking in that department. The one I have is really lousy. I will be looking for a ultra compact tripod and a sturdy medium-weight tripod. That will be the first bite out of the cookie.

Thinking about tripods made me realize that I am also lacking in some of the other supporting gear. To that end I am going to pick up some small things:
A good folding light reflector.
Good 35mm and 120 developing reels. (mine keep jamming up, very aggravating)
Light seal replacements on a couple of my cameras.

I wish I had more space to take the darkroom...well, anywhere that doesn't involve hauling the enlarger in from the garage.

I have the speed graphic listed on the LFF....not sure if it would be bad form to link to it here....should be easy to find over there. I'm asking $250 + shipping. I don't really ahve any additional goodies to go with it.

Ahh... common sense... it's like a breath of fresh spring air.
