Goerz Weitwinkel Lynkeioskop - more info?

Hi All,

I just got a new treasure: Goerz Weitwinkel Lynkeioskop Series F No4, serial 97578.
Actually it's in really good shape, the glass looks almost perfect.

Anyone got more info on that? Focal length? How much it covers? When it's made? How much it can worth?

with a value in the range of 2-300 Euros (Dead Link Removed)

The standard Lynkeioskop appears to be a Rapid Rectilinear configuration (http://www.lungov.com/wagner/c/104c.html). Wide angle versions of that type of lens are not uncommon.

Also, there is some more info on this lens:

This lens "squeaks" around 11x14 and also buzzes wide open.

It's a wide-angle rectlinear, and a pretty good one. Not knowing the focal length, I can't say what it covers.

Per P-H Pont's Goerz chronology, 97578 was made no later than 1900, perhaps in 1899.

thanks pierre! Based on this info the lens will cover an A3 sheet, that is around 20 inch. Sounds huge to me.

Yes, I assumed that the parent company's serial numbers would be continued at the US spin-off–especially since the list started at 70001. Clearly this is not the case. The relationship between German manufacturing plants and their US expansion plants (pre-WWI) was complex and different in each case. Ah well, it was a very quick search. I'm glad better information was available.

Somewhere, I have a link to what seems to be a reliable list of the German numbers; I'll post it as soon as I find it.

I've seen worse looking lenses clean up to be just fine. The Aplanat is similar to the Rapid Rectilinear, both can be surprisingly good.

Any idea what focal length the Goerz is?
