Hello all,

My name is Alistair. I live in Dales area of the UK (NE Derbyshire).

I have been enjoying taking digital images using a Nikon D200 and assorted glass (including AI & AIS e.g. 28mm 2.8; 105mm 2.5).

But, I had this 'monkey on my back' which would not let me rest and needed seeing to i.e. film photography. I have on loan (with a view to buying) a black 1970 Nikon F Photomic FTn (it is 'mint-' in all respects so far).

Looking forward to sharing my failings and of course, my successes!

Thank you for reading.

Alistair

Welcome.

Alistair - hello and welcome to APUG from western New England. This is a great place to learn film photography.

Sitting off to one side is another ape waving medium format at you. Look a little harder, and you'll spy a 300lb gorilla lumbering along with a large format system.. Now that you've fed his baby brother, there is no going back :D

Hi there,
Welcome to the home of the reprobates!

Having myself recently been caught by the "medium format" ape waving a tasty Hasselblad at me I am relying on the "large format" gorilla being weighed down with darkslides, huge tripods, dark cloths, lens panels, loupes etc that even at a reasonable walking pace I can keep him at a distance. If he does finally catch me I shall ask for an explanation of the Scheimfplug effect and make my escape as his head explodes!

Have fun and welcome back to the darkside!

Welcome, Alistair, from near Washington, DC. Have fun.

Lovely warm welcomes - thank you, it is greatly appreciated.

Now excuse me a mo' while I look for that 'springy thingy' that shot out of the meter head!! :surprised: :D (just kidding)

Welcome, welcome. We are all one big happy family here.
Now you just have to sell your house and belongings and distribute the funds among all members.
You can start with me.

Nice to have you.

Welcome Allistair, at my age I'm glad to be anywhere

Ah, poor chap! Rug on the knees and 35mm memories eh? Time for a nice hot milky drink...:D

Once again thanks to you all. I've been out this morning for a small walk along with the Nikon F and some Fuji (oh yeh, the wife came as well)...

I was Joking I'm not quite that bad, Alistair I'm in very good nick for a man of my age, am still very active, and I hate hot milky drinks. A tip from an old photographer is the only thing worst than taking you're wife with you if you want to shoot something worthwhile is to take you're kid or kids.

To paraphrase W.C. Fields, I'd rather take a female girl child with me--'bout 18, 19 years of age............

Welcome to the APUG jungle from Hartington....possibly somewhere else depending on how my interviews pan out:D

WELCOME to the CLUB!

Hello all,

Looking forward to sharing my failings and of course, my successes!

Thank you for reading.

Alistair

Don't mind if I tag along do you? Tell me have you mastered the art science of manually loading film? If so, would you pass along your key learnings?

As well, I will respond with a non-patented system that I'm developing (ha ha) to identify if a FFC is loaded! ~ Stay tuned!
